Methodology
Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Olive oil, 2019-2023. For olive oil production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2023 olive oil production ranking and shares use 2023 listed quantities. In the olive oil production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For olive oil production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did Spain rebound in 2023 yet fall since 2019?
Spain added 187,988 tonnes (up 28.2 percent) between 2022 and 2023 but stands 275,232 tonnes (down 24.4 percent) below its 2019 level of 1,129,233 tonnes. Spain reports in all three endpoint years, so both moves sit inside their change universes.
Where did Palestine go in 2023?
Palestine reported 39,610 tonnes in 2019 and 36,000 tonnes in 2022, then nothing in 2023. Blank cells mean not reported rather than zero, so Palestine sits outside both change universes while shaping the listed totals.
Which Mediterranean reporter held up in 2023?
Italy added 28,502 tonnes (up 8.6 percent) and Portugal 37,776 tonnes (up 27.4 percent) between 2022 and 2023. Both report in both years, so the gains sit inside the change universe against the 33,544-tonne net fall.
