Oranges Consumption by Country

China had the largest reported orange food supply in 2023, at 6,922,930 tonnes, representing 15.5 percent of the listed total across 176 countries. Brazil ranked second at 3,932,320 tonnes, followed by India at 3,597,747 tonnes. On a per-person basis, Panama led at 145.31 grams per person per day, ahead of Paraguay at 104.10 grams. Türkiye recorded the largest annual increase, adding 959,150 tonnes, while the United States had the largest decline, losing 536,483 tonnes. These figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

China Leads a Wide Table

China led at 6,922,930 tonnes, 1.76 times Brazil. India sat third at 3,597,747 tonnes, ahead of Mexico at 3,416,660 and Indonesia at 2,865,762. The top three held 32.3 percent of the 44,721,695-tonne total, and the top five 46.4 percent. Egypt, Iran, Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam closed the top ten between 1,533,994 and 2,081,230 tonnes. Of 176 countries in the file, 175 carried a 2023 value.

Türkiye Gains Most as United States Supply Falls

Across the 175 countries with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 4.4 percent, from 42,834,455 tonnes, a gain of 1,887,240. Türkiye added 959,150 tonnes, more than doubling from 878,892, the largest gain in the file. Egypt added 838,939 tonnes, up 67.5 percent. The United States shed 536,483 tonnes, down 29.4 percent, the largest fall. Morocco shed 308,129 tonnes, down 43.1 percent. Spain added 238,904 tonnes, up 34.3 percent. Indonesia added 236,615 tonnes, while Brazil added 200,222 and Syria 194,501, up 61.7 percent.

India Halves Over Five Years

Among the 174 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, supply fell 6.5 percent, from 47,829,017 tonnes, a loss of 3,107,327. India shed 4,941,422 tonnes, down 57.9 percent from 8,539,169, the largest fall in the file. The United States shed 1,477,894 tonnes, down 53.4 percent. Egypt added 1,141,414 tonnes, more than doubling from 939,816. Vietnam added 676,948 tonnes, up 79.0 percent. Türkiye added 477,031 tonnes, up 35.0 percent. Indonesia added 539,756 tonnes, up 23.2 percent. Cuba reported 12,807 tonnes in 2019 with no later values, while Comoros first reported 5.05 tonnes in 2023.

Mexico Holds Fourth

Mexico sat fourth at 3,416,660 tonnes and sixth per person at 72.15 grams. Indonesia, fifth at 2,865,762 tonnes, added 236,615 in the latest year. Iran, seventh at 1,977,315 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten. Italy, ninth at 1,754,996 tonnes, sat fourth per person at 80.81 grams.

Vietnam Holds Tenth

Vietnam closed the top ten at 1,533,994 tonnes, adding 676,948 over five years, up 79.0 percent. Brazil, second at 3,932,320 tonnes, added 200,222 in the latest year. India, third by volume, shed 4,941,422 tonnes over five years. Morocco shed 308,129 tonnes in the latest year, down 43.1 percent.

Panama Leads Per Person

Panama's 145.31 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Paraguay at 104.10 and Guyana at 80.82. Italy followed at 80.81 grams and Eswatini at 73.47. Mexico sat at 72.15 grams after holding fourth by volume. China, the volume leader, sat at 13.33 grams per person.

For oranges, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. China led total orange food supply, while Panama ranked first per person. Türkiye recorded the largest annual increase among reporting countries in the latest year. The file holds 176 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 175 carry 2023 values. The numbers describe food available for human consumption.
