Brazil leads with 17.6 million tonnes in 2023, concentrated in São Paulo state where 95% of production becomes frozen concentrated orange juice (FCOJ) for export. Brazilian oranges, primarily Valencia and Pera varieties, serve industrial processing rather than fresh market—80% of harvest goes to juice factories within hours of picking. Brazil supplies 75% of global FCOJ trade, shipping to USA, Europe, and Asia. However, citrus greening disease (HLB) devastated groves, reducing production from 18+ million tonnes in 2010s. Egypt produces 3.7 million tonnes, Indonesia 2.9 million tonnes, and Vietnam 1.8 million tonnes. Spain contributes 2.7 million tonnes, emphasizing Valencia oranges for fresh export to Europe. USA produces 2.3 million tonnes, down from 8+ million in 1990s due to citrus greening devastating Florida groves—California now dominates US production with Navel oranges for fresh market. Italy produces 1.8 million tonnes, Iran 2.2 million tonnes, and Turkey 2.3 million tonnes. South Africa contributes 1.6 million tonnes, exporting counter-seasonally to northern hemisphere. � Vlarieties and Uses

Valencia oranges dominate juice production—high juice content, balanced sweetness-acidity, and few seeds. Navel oranges suit fresh eating—seedless, easy-peeling, sweet flavor, though poor for juicing due to limonin bitterness. Blood oranges offer distinctive red flesh and berry notes. Cara Cara oranges provide pink flesh and low acidity. Processing creates FCOJ (frozen concentrated orange juice), NFC (not-from-concentrate) juice, orange oil for flavoring, pectin from peels, and cattle feed from pulp.
