Other Root Flour Consumption by Country
FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record flour of roots and tubers not elsewhere classified available for human consumption, in tonnes and in grams per person per day, from 2019 through 2023. The file covers 118 reporters; 112 of them carry a 2023 value, adding to a listed total of 532,158 tonnes. Indonesia leads Thailand by 1.20 times at the top of a table that shrank 14.0 percent in five years.
Indonesia reported the largest 2023 supply at 121,935 tonnes, while Papua New Guinea recorded the highest per-capita figure at 22.41 grams per person per day. Indonesia's 121,935 tonnes top the 2023 table at 22.9 percent of the listed total, 1.20 times Thailand's 101,900 in second. China follows at 95,387 with Papua New Guinea at 85,001; the top three hold 60.0 percent, the top five 85.2 percent and the top ten 97.6 percent. Cameroon, Malaysia, the United States, Taiwan, Ivory Coast and Israel complete the ten. The common total moved from 618,390 tonnes to 532,034, down 86,356 tonnes or 14.0 percent across 103 reporters. The United States fell 50,820 tonnes (down 78.9 percent), 58.8 percent of the net decrease, with Indonesia down 38,572 (down 24.0 percent), DR Congo down 19,038 to zero and South Korea down 18,275 (down 99.1 percent); Malaysia added 16,509 (up 95.8 percent), Cameroon 8,896 (up 22.1 percent), Ivory Coast 6,383 from a reported 2019 zero and Thailand 5,226 (up 5.4 percent). Four reporters left at zero; nine entered with 125 tonnes between them. The common total moved from 592,258 tonnes to 532,048, down 60,210 tonnes or 10.2 percent across 110 reporters. The United States fell 17,755 tonnes (down 56.7 percent), with Cameroon down 12,082 (down 19.7 percent), South Korea down 8,616 (down 98.0 percent), Liberia down 6,601 (down 96.7 percent) and Saudi Arabia down 6,347 to zero; Indonesia fell 3,611 (down 2.9 percent) while Malaysia fell 2,149 (down 6.0 percent), and Uganda fell 3,420 (down 83.8 percent) after spiking to 4,079 in 2022. One reporter left at zero; two entered with 111 tonnes between them. Papua New Guinea's 22.41 grams per person per day head the per-capita table from 85,001 tonnes, with Cameroon at 4.75 from 49,199 and Thailand at 3.89 from 101,900 — second, fourth and fifth by volume against third, first and second per person. Malaysia pairs sixth by volume with fourth per person at 2.63 grams; Gabon, Israel, Indonesia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Taiwan and Ivory Coast complete the per-person ten. The FAO item covers flour of roots and tubers not elsewhere classified — the residual flour basket after cassava and potato flours, which have their own articles; none are added together here. Food supply quantity captures what was available for human consumption during the reference year. The gram-per-day figure spreads that availability across the population on a daily basis. Indonesia had the largest 2023 listed supply at 121,935 tonnes, while Papua New Guinea had the highest per-capita figure at 22.41 grams per person per day. The 2023 listed total was 532,158 tonnes across 112 reporters, down 14.0 percent on a common-reporter basis since 2019. These figures record food available for human consumption, not amounts actually eaten. One hundred eighteen reporters with a value in at least one year from 2019 through 2023 stand behind the tables, reporters only; World, regional and China (aggregate) rows are outside the count, and China here is the China reporter. The earlier endpoint year is the base for every percentage across reporters present in both years. Zero-base years produce no percentage, and small-base percentages should be read with the base alongside. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts food supply quantity, element 5141 in tonnes for totals and element 665 in grams per capita per day, follows this residual flour item from 2019 to 2023. Availability for human consumption in the reference year is what the numbers count, not intake. Zero reports zero; blank reports nothing. The 2023 listed total of 532,158 tonnes sums the 112 reporters with a 2023 value, in tonnes as published. Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the table shrink 14 percent?
The United States fell 50,820 tonnes with Indonesia down 38,572, DR Congo down 19,038 and South Korea down 18,275, against small gains led by Malaysia's 16,509. The figures record each move without attributing causes.
How can the lead be only 1.20 times?
Indonesia reported 121,935 tonnes against Thailand's 101,900 — the leader holds 22.9 percent and the top three 60.0 percent. The figures describe the tightness, not what keeps it tight.
Which reporters report zero in 2023?
DR Congo and Saudi Arabia, at zero after 19,038 tonnes in 2019 and 6,347 in 2022; South Korea reports 172.9 tonnes. A zero is a reported zero, which differs from a blank cell meaning no report.
