Pineapples, Otherwise Prepared or Preserved Consumption by Country

Prepared pineapples could not be closer: the United States held 257,350 tonnes in 2023, 1.02 times Indonesia's 251,274. Brazil followed at 107,735 tonnes, while Angola led per person at 7.08 grams a day. The 2023 figures total 1,385,038 tonnes across 174 countries, 172 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.

The common-country total slipped 6.3 percent in the latest year but was nearly flat between 2019 and 2023, with Indonesia gaining while the United States and Thailand declined.

Angola placed fourth at 94,968 tonnes, with China fifth at 82,959 and the Philippines sixth at 58,339. Germany, Malaysia, Mexico and Spain closed the top ten between 29,794 and 38,592 tonnes. The top three held 44.5 percent of the annual listed consumption total, and the top five 57.3 percent. The United States had the highest listed food supply at 257,350 tonnes, while Angola had the highest per-capita food supply at 7.08 grams per person.

• American prepared pineapples slide: down 62,544 tonnes, or 19.6 percent, yet first place holds.
• Philippine prepared pineapples erupt: up 51,886 tonnes, or 804.1 percent from a small base.
• German prepared pineapples shrink: down 25,645 tonnes, or 39.9 percent, dropping to seventh.

United States Leads Prepared Pineapple Supply

The United States lost 62,544 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 19.6 percent to 257,350 tonnes. Germany lost 25,645 tonnes, down 39.9 percent. Russia shed 15,687 tonnes, down 44.8 percent. Malaysia gave up 13,336 tonnes, down 28.0 percent, and the Netherlands 12,168 tonnes, down 82.6 percent. The Philippines added 51,886 tonnes, up 804.1 percent from a small base to 58,339 tonnes. Indonesia added 16,200 tonnes, up 6.9 percent. China added 11,685 tonnes, up 16.4 percent. The 172 countries present in both years fell from 1,477,569 tonnes to 1,385,038 tonnes, down 92,531 tonnes, or 6.3 percent, with one departure holding nothing and no arrivals.

Indonesia Gains While the United States and Thailand Decline

Between 2019 and 2023, the 170 countries present in both years inched from 1,380,265 tonnes to 1,385,019 tonnes, up 4,754 tonnes, or 0.3 percent. Indonesia added 146,154 tonnes, up 139.0 percent. Ecuador added 15,500 tonnes from almost nothing. Malaysia added 11,445 tonnes, up 50.0 percent. The United States lost 34,086 tonnes, down 11.7 percent. Thailand lost 30,654 tonnes, down 95.8 percent. Costa Rica went from 29,510 tonnes to a reported zero. Russia shed 27,864 tonnes, down 59.0 percent, and Germany 18,964 tonnes, down 32.9 percent. Two countries left with 141 tonnes, against two arrivals with 20.

Angola Leads Prepared Pineapples Per Person

Angola's 7.08 grams a day beat Belize's 5.09 in second and Portugal's 3.69 in third. Finland followed at 3.64 grams, with the Marshall Islands at 3.40 and Barbados at 2.98. Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Indonesia sat below three grams. The United States, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten.

Pineapples prepared or preserved otherwise than in juice are counted here in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. The top two sit 6,076 tonnes apart on a 1.4-million-tonne table.

Costa Rica's zero follows 29,510 tonnes in 2019, a twelfth-place level. Thailand's 95.8 percent five-year fall ends at 1,359 tonnes, not zero. The Philippines rose 804.1 percent from 6,453 tonnes in 2022 to 58,339 tonnes in 2023, slightly above its 53,868-tonne level in 2019.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts sort tonnage for human consumption under element 5141 and daily grams per person under element 665, shown for prepared pineapples across 2019-2023. Percentages lean on the earlier year, and zero bases receive no percentage. The universe counts 174 countries after aggregates are lifted out, 172 with 2023 values. Only countries with values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total of 1,385,038 tonnes is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.
