China led the world in food supply of other vegetables provisionally preserved in 2023, with 428,831 tonnes, or 25.6 percent of the listed total. India ranked second at 241,205 tonnes, followed by Algeria at 123,210 tonnes. Together, the three countries accounted for 47.4 percent of the 1,674,182-tonne total. Algeria Drives the Latest Increase

Across the 167 countries with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 12.6 percent, from 1,486,747 tonnes, a gain of 187,436. Algeria added 121,566 tonnes from 1,644, the largest gain in the file. India added 45,610 tonnes, up 23.3 percent. China shed 24,262 tonnes. Vietnam added 20,853 tonnes, up 26.0 percent. Iran added 15,234 tonnes from 203. Spain added 11,028 tonnes, up 35.5 percent. South Korea shed 8,062 tonnes, while Italy added 7,284. Guyana reported 1.39 tonnes in 2022 with a blank entry in 2023, which is missing data rather than a reported zero.

Algeria Falls Most Over Five Years

Among the 161 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, supply fell 11.0 percent, from 1,880,264 tonnes, a loss of 207,174. Algeria shed 282,188 tonnes, down 69.6 percent from 405,398, the largest fall in the file. Spain added 41,362 tonnes from 733. South Korea shed 26,326 tonnes, down 34.1 percent. Mexico added 22,529 tonnes, up 158.4 percent from 14,225. Italy added 20,784 tonnes, up 62.5 percent. Cuba, Guyana, Macau, Paraguay and Solomon Islands reported values in 2019 but not in 2023, while Bhutan, Kuwait, Mauritania, Micronesia, Nauru and Sierra Leone first reported values in the window.

Vietnam Holds Fourth

Vietnam ranked fourth at 100,955 tonnes, adding 20,853 in the latest year after 80,102 in 2022, a gap of 47 tonnes over Taiwan at 70,275. Indonesia, fifth at 70,322 tonnes, holds a narrow edge over Taiwan. The Philippines, seventh at 56,734 tonnes, sits well clear of Italy at 54,043.

Italy Holds Eighth

Italy ranked eighth at 54,043 tonnes, adding 7,284 in the latest year and 20,784 over five years. South Korea, ninth at 50,926 tonnes, shed 8,062 lately and 26,326 over five years. Spain closed the top ten at 42,095 tonnes, adding 11,028 lately and 41,362 over five years. Greece shed 12,365 tonnes over five years, down 96.4 percent.
