Rapeseed or Canola Oil, Crude Consumption by Country

India reported 3,500,095 tonnes of crude rapeseed oil food supply in 2023, 32.3 percent of the listed total. China came second and the United States third at 946,707. Per person, Canada led. Supply rose 13.4 percent in the latest year, with China adding 444,688 tonnes. All figures describe food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

Answer: India had the largest crude rapeseed or canola oil food supply in 2023 at 3,500,095 tonnes, accounting for 32.3 percent of the listed total. Canada ranked first on a per-person basis at 40.79 grams per person per day. These figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten.

India accounted for nearly a third of the 10,826,251-tonne listed total, followed by China at 2,239,625 tonnes. The comparable country set grew 13.4 percent in the latest year.

Two Asian Giants, Then the Rest

India led, 1.56 times China. China and the United States together held 29.4 percent of the 10,826,251-tonne total, and the top five reached 73.2 percent. The United Kingdom sat fourth at 650,496 tonnes, ahead of Canada at 585,126 and Germany at 472,804. Pakistan took seventh at 350,000 tonnes, just ahead of Australia at 325,885. Of 131 countries in the file, 130 carried a 2023 value.

China Sets the Latest Pace

Across the 130 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 13.4 percent, from 9,550,699 tonnes, a gain of 1,275,552. China added 444,688 tonnes, about a third of the net rise, for 24.8 percent growth. The United States added 286,071 tonnes, up 43.3 percent, and Pakistan 160,000, up 84.2 percent from 190,000. The United Kingdom added 155,496 tonnes, while India added 88,040, or 2.6 percent on its large base. Canada, Australia and Germany each added under 40,000 tonnes.

Five Years, Three Million More

Among the 126 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 31.4 percent, from 8,234,947 tonnes, a gain of 2,588,126. India added 940,756 tonnes, over a third of the net rise, and China 672,393. The United States added 298,456 tonnes and Pakistan 150,000, rising from 200,000. The United Kingdom added 145,496 tonnes and Australia 122,803, up 60.5 percent. Bangladesh added 63,096 tonnes. Four countries joined over the period, adding 3,178 tonnes, against one departure.

Germany Holds Sixth

Germany sat sixth overall at 472,804 tonnes, adding 29,940 in the latest year, with 15.32 grams per person. Australia, eighth at 325,885 tonnes, paired a top-ten volume with second place per person. France closed the top ten at 191,504 tonnes. Bangladesh, ninth at 224,346 tonnes, added 63,096 over five years. The top ten covered 87.6 percent of supply, so the remaining 120 countries split barely an eighth.

Canada Eats Most Per Person

Canada's 40.79 grams a day led the per-person table comfortably, ahead of Australia at 33.75 and the Czech Republic at 33.48. The United Kingdom, fourth by volume, sat fourth per person at 25.95 grams, while India, the volume leader, sat at 6.67. Slovakia and Austria followed between 22 and 25 grams. Pakistan, seventh by volume, sat at 3.87 grams per person, near the bottom of the top ten.

For rapeseed or canola oil, crude, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 131 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 130 carry 2023 values. The numbers describe food available for human consumption.
