Brazil remained the third-largest producer of raw hides and skins of cattle, adding 127,516 tonnes between 2023 and 2024 and accounting for 52.9 percent of the increase among common reporters. The figures below are based on FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Raw hides and skins of cattle, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 164 countries; 162 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 8,017,402 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

China produced 1.39 times as much as the United States: 1,558,180 tonnes against 1,121,172, while Brazil ranks third with 1,023,758 tonnes, 97,414 tonnes behind the United States. The top two hold 33.4 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 1,023,758 and 513,896 tonnes respectively.

In 2024, China was the largest listed producer of raw hides and skins of cattle at 1,558,180 tonnes, followed by the United States at 1,121,172 tonnes and Brazil at 1,023,758 tonnes. These three countries accounted for 46.2 percent of the 8,017,402-tonne listed total. Between 2023 and 2024, Brazil added 127,516 tonnes, representing 52.9 percent of the increase among common reporters.

Raw Hides and Skins of Cattle Production by Country in 2024

China was the largest raw cattle hides producer in the 2024 listed data with 1,558,180 tonnes, followed by the United States with 1,121,172 tonnes and Brazil with 1,023,758 tonnes. Argentina ranked fourth with 513,896 tonnes.

China holds 19.4 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 46.2 percent of the 8,017,402-tonne listed total.

Brazil Adds 127,516 Tonnes as Raw Hides and Skins of Cattle Production Grows 3.1 Percent Among Common Reporters

From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (162 countries with data in both years) moved from 7,776,213 tonnes to 8,017,402 tonnes, a change of 241,189 tonnes (3.1 percent). The totals listed for each year were 7,800,134 tonnes (163 reporters) and 8,017,402 tonnes (162 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (23,921 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 127,516 tonnes (up 14.2 percent), accounting for 52.9 percent of the increase, while China added 52,820 tonnes (up 3.5 percent) and Australia 41,172 tonnes (up 15.9 percent).

Brazil Adds 241,269 Tonnes as Raw Hides and Skins of Cattle Production Grows 9.6 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (162 countries with data in both years) rose from 7,316,152 tonnes to 8,017,402 tonnes, a change of 701,250 tonnes (9.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 7,341,353 tonnes (164 reporters) and 8,017,402 tonnes (162 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2020 (Nicaragua, 24,025 tonnes, and Palestine, 1,177 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 241,269 tonnes (up 30.8 percent) and China 213,280 tonnes (up 15.9 percent), while Australia added 53,897 tonnes (up 21.9 percent).

For raw cattle hides production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 raw cattle hides production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the raw cattle hides production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For raw cattle hides production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
