Raw Milk of Goats Consumption by Country

India had the largest reported food supply of raw goat milk in 2023, at 7,643,155 tonnes, followed by Bangladesh at 953,438 tonnes and Pakistan at 952,001 tonnes. Jamaica ranked first for per-person supply, at 188.82 grams a day, ahead of Mongolia at 71.85 grams. The listed 2023 total was 15,296,358 tonnes, and 97 of the 98 country rows reported a value for that year, 96 of them above zero. These figures represent food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually consumed.

Türkiye placed fourth by volume at 477,496 tonnes, and the three leading countries together accounted for about 62.4 percent of the listed 2023 total, with India alone supplying roughly half.

• Mongolia recorded the largest decline by tonnage in the latest year.
• Serbia lost more than a third of its 2022 level.
• India added the most in volume, at 201,674 tonnes.
• Bangladesh added 67,367 tonnes, up 7.6 percent.

Mongolia Records the Largest Recent Decline

Mongolia lost 30,250 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 25.2 percent to 90,000 tonnes. The Netherlands lost 17,695 tonnes, down 4.0 percent, and Serbia shed 13,368 tonnes, down 38.5 percent. India added 201,674 tonnes, up 2.7 percent, Bangladesh added 67,367 tonnes, up 7.6 percent, and Pakistan added 25,484 tonnes, up 2.8 percent. Every country with a 2022 value also reported one for 2023, so that shared total rose from 15,002,718 tonnes to 15,296,358 tonnes, up 293,640 tonnes, or 2.0 percent.

India Drives Five-Year Growth in Goat Milk Supply

Between 2019 and 2023, the 93 countries with a value in both years rose from 14,504,181 tonnes to 14,953,152 tonnes, up 448,971 tonnes, or 3.1 percent. India added 1,904,359 tonnes, up 33.2 percent, and Pakistan added 96,474 tonnes, up 11.3 percent. France entered with 132,688 tonnes after a reported zero in 2019, so no percentage applies to that country. Bangladesh lost 1,709,768 tonnes, down 64.2 percent, although most of that fall came between 2020 and 2021 rather than gradually across the whole period; the table shows the change but not its cause. Ukraine shed 44,272 tonnes, and Cuba reported 5,018 tonnes in 2019 but none afterwards, while four countries entered the comparison.

Jamaica Leads in Goat Milk Supply per Person

Jamaica recorded 188.82 grams a day in 2023, ahead of Mongolia at 71.85 grams in second and Oman at 63.99 grams in third. The Netherlands sat fourth at 63.74 grams, with Albania at 61.05 grams and Mauritania at 53.39 grams. India, first by volume, ranked nineteenth per person at 14.56 grams, so the two rankings point to different countries.

What the Goat Milk Supply Figures Measure

Raw goat milk available for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. Total tonnage shows the scale of reported food supply, while grams per person per day adjust the figures for population size, and neither measure shows how much people actually consumed.

Two series in this table change sharply enough to warrant a source check: Czechia reported zero in each of the last three years after 4,843 tonnes in 2020, and France went from a reported zero in 2019 to 125,876 tonnes in 2020. A reported zero is a recorded value and a blank cell is missing data, so neither one should be read on its own as proof that availability stopped.

Methodology

The source is FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts. Element 5141 reports food supply quantity in tonnes and element 665 reports it in grams per capita per day, for raw milk of goats, over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum country records with reported values, excluding regional and aggregate records. Of the 98 country rows, 97 reported a value in 2023 and 96 of those were above zero. Comparisons between two years use only countries with values at both endpoints, which gives 97 countries for 2022-2023 and 93 for 2019-2023, and the country count and both totals come from that shared set. Percentage changes use the earlier year as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero, which is the case for France in 2019. Reported zeros are kept as values, blank cells are treated as missing, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimals.
