The figures pair export quantities in milled-equivalent tonnes with export values in current US dollars, based on FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral records for 2020-2024. Of the 156 listed countries, 107 reported a 2024 quantity. The ranking below orders countries by their 2024 listed quantity, from largest to smallest.

India was the largest exporter in the 2024 listed data with 17,876,079 tonnes, followed by Thailand with 9,885,343 tonnes and Pakistan with 6,500,097 tonnes. Cambodia ranked fourth with 3,908,579 tonnes, ahead of the United States (3,135,643 tonnes), Myanmar (2,606,898 tonnes), China (1,116,836 tonnes), Brazil (940,577 tonnes), Paraguay (727,738 tonnes) and Italy (707,750 tonnes). India also led on export value at 11,646,594,000 US dollars, ahead of Thailand (6,401,121,000) and Pakistan (4,193,291,000).

The three largest exporters reported similar unit values in 2024: about 651 dollars per tonne for India, 648 for Thailand and 645 for Pakistan. The United States was higher at about 774 dollars per tonne. These figures are calculated by dividing each country's reported export value by its reported quantity for the same year.

Six Asian countries — India, Thailand, Pakistan, Cambodia, Myanmar and China — together exported 41,893,832 tonnes, or 81.1 percent of the listed 2024 total. India alone holds 34.6 percent; the top three hold 66.4 percent, the top five 80.0 percent and the top ten 91.8 percent, with India exporting about 1.81 times as much as Thailand. The Americas contribute a distant second tier (the United States, Brazil, Paraguay, Guyana and Argentina total about 5.5 million tonnes, or 10.6 percent), while Europe's exporters account for about 3.3 percent of the listed total, led by Italy, Belgium (483,133 tonnes) and the Netherlands (340,994 tonnes).

Rice, Paddy (Rice Milled Equivalent) Export Changes, 2023-2024

Between 2023 and 2024, the common reporter universe (102 countries with data in both years) rose from 44,113,579 tonnes to 51,632,546 tonnes, a change of 7,518,967 tonnes (17.0 percent). The totals listed for each year were 53,429,960 tonnes (137 reporters) and 51,634,543 tonnes (107 reporters). The lower listed total in 2024 reflects 35 countries, accounting for about 9.3 million tonnes in 2023, that did not report a 2024 quantity; it does not contradict the increase among countries reporting in both years. Cambodia added 2,513,439 tonnes (up 180.2 percent), Pakistan 1,969,824 tonnes (up 43.5 percent), Thailand 1,127,822 tonnes (up 12.9 percent), Myanmar 1,094,383 tonnes (up 72.4 percent) and the United States 862,439 tonnes (up 37.9 percent). India added 179,842 tonnes (up 1.0 percent); the percentage is small because the comparison begins from a 17.7-million-tonne base. China fell 487,066 tonnes (down 30.4 percent), Brazil 225,980 tonnes (down 19.4 percent) and Paraguay 135,149 tonnes (down 15.7 percent).

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (102 countries with data in both years) rose from 38,515,492 tonnes to 51,630,808 tonnes, a change of 13,115,316 tonnes (34.1 percent). The totals listed for each year were 45,551,351 tonnes (135 reporters) and 51,634,543 tonnes (107 reporters); 33 countries reporting in 2020 (about 7.0 million tonnes combined) did not report in 2024. Thailand added 4,222,428 tonnes (up 74.6 percent), India 3,414,143 tonnes (up 23.6 percent), Cambodia 3,255,527 tonnes (from 653,052 tonnes, up 498.5 percent) and Pakistan 2,555,961 tonnes (up 64.8 percent). China recorded the steepest absolute retreat, down 1,153,173 tonnes (down 50.8 percent), followed by Brazil with 274,876 tonnes (down 22.6 percent).

Annual reporter totals here come from FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral flows for item Rice, paddy (rice milled equivalent), 2020-2024, for export quantity and export value. Quantities are milled-equivalent tonnes shown as rounded display values (two decimals below 1,000 tonnes, whole tonnes above); values are full current US dollars, not inflation-adjusted. Shares and the ranking rest on 2024 listed quantities. Zero signals a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell signals nothing reported, and the two never substitute for each other. Only countries reporting quantities in both compared years enter change calculations, with entering and exiting reporters quantified separately. Gaps may be filled from partner records and food-aid flows may be added; bilateral pairs are not fully reconciled, so export and mirror-import declarations can differ.
