Vanadium production by country shows how much vanadium is mined in each country, measured in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production in terms of vanadium content. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2019-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 6 countries included in the underlying data during the period. USGS reports 2025 estimates for 4 countries, which produced a combined 113,300 tonnes in 2025, slightly above the reported World total of 110,000 tonnes in the source. Australia and the United States are listed by the source without values and keep their earlier figures (Australia 0 through 2022; the United States 460 in 2019 and 17 in 2020, then 0 through 2021).

China produced the most vanadium in 2025 with 82,000 tonnes. Russia ranked second with 21,000, followed by Brazil (5,300), and South Africa (5,000).

China alone accounted for about 75 percent of the World total in 2025, and China and Russia together for about 94 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 98 percent. China's output was about 3.9 times that of Russia. Only China exceeded 50,000 tonnes in 2025.

Vanadium Production Around the World

In Asia, China (82,000) is the dominant producer. In Europe and Asia, Russia (21,000) is the largest producer. In South America, Brazil (5,300) is the only listed producer. In Africa, South Africa (5,000) is the only listed producer; Australia (0 in 2022) and the United States (0 in 2021) retain their earlier values.

Largest Changes in Vanadium Production, 2024-2025

Brazil recorded the only increase, rising from 5,190 tonnes in 2024 to 5,300 in 2025 (up 110, about 2 percent). Russia (21,000) held its level.

South Africa recorded the largest decline, falling from 8,050 to 5,000 tonnes (down 3,050, about 38 percent). China fell from 84,000 to 82,000 (down 2,000, about 2.4 percent).

The World total fell from 118,000 to 110,000 tonnes (down 8,000, about 6.8 percent). The declines in South Africa and China accounted for most of the fall in the individually reported countries, while Brazil's small increase partly offset them. The World total fell by more because the source reports it separately from the country figures.

The 2024 figures in this release are revised from earlier values: China (revised up from 70,000 to 84,000 tonnes), Russia (up from 20,000 to 21,000), South Africa (up from 8,000 to 8,050), and Brazil (up from 5,000 to 5,190).

Methodology

The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national vanadium production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2019-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; Australia and the United States are listed without values and keep their earlier figures. Values refer to mine production of vanadium content, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
