Yoghurt Consumption by Country
Germany had the largest listed yoghurt food supply in 2023 at 852,630 tonnes, 18.4 percent of the annual listed food supply total. Russia followed at 612,100 tonnes and France at 580,190, while Belarus recorded the highest figure per person at 99.22 grams per day. The 2023 figures total 4,623,462 tonnes across 101 countries, 84 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.
In 2023, Germany had the largest listed yoghurt food supply at 852,630 tonnes, followed by Russia at 612,100 tonnes and France at 580,190 tonnes. Belarus ranked first per person at 99.22 grams per person per day, ahead of Lithuania at 57.21 grams. The 84 countries with reported 2023 values supplied a combined 4,623,462 tonnes of yoghurt for human consumption.
Belarus placed fourth at 330,134 tonnes, with Poland fifth at 298,130 and Spain sixth at 249,260. Romania, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria and Austria closed the top ten between 135,570 and 158,000 tonnes. The top three held 44.2 percent of the annual listed food supply total, and the top five 57.8 percent. France added 48,700 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 9.2 percent. Saudi Arabia added 46,794 tonnes, up 49.4 percent. Poland added 30,140 tonnes, up 11.2 percent. Belarus added 27,404 tonnes, up 9.1 percent. Spain added 21,010 tonnes. Germany added 20,520 tonnes, up 2.5 percent. Austria added 14,050 tonnes, up 11.6 percent. Russia lost 39,874 tonnes, down 6.1 percent. The 82 countries present in both years rose from 4,490,481 tonnes to 4,623,295 tonnes, up 132,814 tonnes, or 3.0 percent, with two arrivals carrying 167 tonnes. Between 2019 and 2023, the 72 countries present in both years advanced from 4,294,417 tonnes to 4,547,633 tonnes, up 253,216 tonnes, or 5.9 percent. France added 133,700 tonnes, up 29.9 percent, accounting for 52.8 percent of the net gain. Saudi Arabia added 110,270 tonnes, up 352.9 percent. Russia added 93,100 tonnes, up 17.9 percent. Poland added 55,440 tonnes, up 22.8 percent. Belarus added 30,134 tonnes, up 10.0 percent. Oman lost 40,753 tonnes, down 64.1 percent. The United Arab Emirates shed 24,195 tonnes, down 85.1 percent. Austria gave up 22,580 tonnes, down 14.3 percent. Thirteen countries left with 188,644 tonnes, against 12 arrivals with 75,829. Belarus' 99.22 grams a day towered over Lithuania's 57.21 in second and Bulgaria's 55.3 in third. Croatia sat fourth at 51.6 grams, with Slovenia at 42.33 and Austria at 40.68. Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Latvia followed below 38 grams. Germany, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten. The per-person ranking is led by Belarus, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia. Yoghurt for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. The leader holds less than a fifth, so the ranking stays open. The tonnage figures show total food supply, while the per-person figures adjust that supply for population size. Thirteen departures carried 188,644 tonnes, led by Ukraine and Kuwait, while twelve arrivals brought 75,829 tonnes. Oman fell 64.1 percent across five years yet still reports. No reported zero followed a large value, so no source-check warning applies. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record tonnage for human consumption as element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for yoghurt across 2019-2023. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base; no percentage is calculated when that base is zero. The universe counts 101 countries after aggregates are removed, 84 with 2023 values. Only countries holding values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total is the sum of the 84 countries with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who trails Belarus per person?
Belarus clearly led yoghurt per person in 2023, far above second-placed Lithuania at 57.21 grams with Bulgaria next best at 55.3 grams a day overall.
How concentrated is yoghurt supply?
Germany held 18.4 percent of the annual listed food supply, while the top three countries together accounted for 44.2 percent of the listed total in 2023.
How much did France add lately?
France added 48,700 tonnes, up 9.2 percent in the latest year to 580,190 tonnes, the biggest single latest-year gain among all countries in the file.
Is this what people actually ate?
No. The figures measure food available for human consumption in the reference year, not actual intake, so eaten amounts stay below supply in every case.
Who carried five-year growth?
France alone added 133,700 tonnes and Saudi Arabia alone added 110,270 tonnes, the two engines of the net five-year 253,216-tonne gain recorded overall since 2019.
