The table lists 119 countries, all of which reported a 2023 quantity, and the 2023 annual listed total is 5,983,836 tonnes. The 2023 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

The United States produced 2.04 times as much as Germany: 957,773 tonnes against 468,880, while New Zealand ranks third with 462,400 tonnes, 6,480 tonnes behind Germany. The top two hold 23.8 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 462,400 and 403,970 tonnes respectively.

The 2023 butter of cow milk production ranking and shares use 2023 listed quantities. In the butter of cow milk production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For butter of cow milk production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
