Goat Butter Consumption by Country
Italy ranked first in goat butter food supply in 2023, with 32,808 tonnes, or about 43.7 percent of the listed total. The Philippines ranked second at 15,297 tonnes, followed by Belgium at 9,675 tonnes. Luxembourg had the highest listed supply per person at 2.78 grams a day. The listed 2023 total was 75,061 tonnes, and 38 of the 42 country rows reported a value for that year, 28 of them above zero. These figures represent food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually ate.
Indonesia placed fourth by volume at 5,906 tonnes, and the three leading countries together accounted for about 77.0 percent of the listed 2023 total, so a small group of countries accounts for most of the recorded supply. Belgium lost 4,097 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 29.7 percent to 9,675 tonnes, and Indonesia lost 4,061 tonnes, down 40.8 percent. The Philippines shed 2,901 tonnes, down 15.9 percent. Iraq added 41.39 tonnes, up 23.6 percent, Luxembourg added 75.01 tonnes, up 12.5 percent, and Russia added 102.87 tonnes, up 72.5 percent. The 31 countries with a value in both years fell from 88,802 tonnes to 74,707 tonnes, down 14,095 tonnes, or 15.9 percent, with seven countries joining the comparison and none leaving it. Between 2019 and 2023, the 25 countries with a value in both years fell from 100,294 tonnes to 74,457 tonnes, down 25,837 tonnes, or 25.8 percent. The Philippines lost 18,500 tonnes, down 54.7 percent, Belgium shed 5,792 tonnes, and Indonesia gave up 4,089 tonnes. Luxembourg added 80.62 tonnes, Poland added 904 tonnes, and Austria added 2,797 tonnes, up 150.4 percent. Four countries had a 2019 value but no 2023 value, while thirteen had a 2023 value but no 2019 value, and both counts describe data availability only. Luxembourg recorded 2.78 grams a day in 2023, ahead of Belgium at 2.26 grams in second and Italy at 1.51 grams in third. Austria sat fourth at 1.40 grams, with the Philippines at 0.36 grams and Poland at 0.33 grams. Italy, first by volume, placed third per person, so the two rankings point to different countries. Butter of goat milk available for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. The per-person figure expresses daily food supply relative to population, and neither measure shows how much people actually ate. Ten countries reported zero in 2023, including Armenia, which fell from 247.35 tonnes in 2022, and Saudi Arabia, which fell from 102.42 tonnes; both drops deserve a source check. A reported zero is a recorded value and a blank cell is missing data, so a zero does not by itself show whether national supply stopped or whether reporting practice changed. The source is FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts. Element 5141 reports food supply quantity in tonnes and element 665 reports it in grams per capita per day, for butter of goat milk, over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum country records with reported values, excluding regional and aggregate records. Of the 42 country rows, 38 reported a value in 2023 and 28 of those were above zero. Comparisons between two years use only countries with values at both endpoints, which gives 31 countries for 2022-2023 and 25 for 2019-2023, and the country count and both totals come from that shared set. Percentage changes use the earlier year as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero. Reported zeros are kept as values, blank cells are treated as missing, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimals.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Which country has the highest goat butter supply?
Italy ranked first in 2023 with 32,808 tonnes, about 43.7 percent of the listed total of 75,061 tonnes reported across the 38 countries with values.
Why does Luxembourg rank above Italy per person?
Luxembourg ranked first per person, ahead of Belgium at 2.26 grams and Italy at 1.51 grams, because a national total depends on population size while the per-person figure does not.
Which countries reported zero goat butter supply in 2023?
Ten did, including Armenia after 247.35 tonnes in 2022 and Saudi Arabia after 102.42 tonnes, both worth checking against the source records before any conclusion.
How much did the listed supply in Belgium change in the latest year?
Belgium lost 4,097 tonnes, down 29.7 percent, to 9,675 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, the largest decline by tonnage among the reporting countries in the file.
Why is goat butter food supply different from actual consumption?
FAO food supply figures measure the amount available for human consumption, not the quantity ultimately eaten, so they should not be read as a direct measure of individual dietary intake.
