The top three held 56.9 percent of the 34,667,066-tonne total, and the top five 62.4 percent. Germany, Ukraine, Pakistan, Indonesia and France closed the top ten between 598,115 and 717,289 tonnes. Of 173 countries in the file, 172 carried a 2023 value.

Uzbekistan Records the Largest Annual Decline

Across the 172 countries with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, supply eased 1.4 percent, from 35,150,784 tonnes, a loss of 483,719. Uzbekistan shed 393,077 tonnes, down 14.6 percent, most of the net loss. China shed 153,351 tonnes. The United States shed 95,902 tonnes. Iran added 91,476 tonnes, up 47.0 percent. Italy added 76,893 tonnes, more than doubling from 66,677. Ukraine added 70,346 tonnes, up 11.1 percent, while Belarus added 69,119 and Indonesia shed 64,782.

Uzbekistan Posts the Largest Five-Year Gain

Among the 171 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 1.9 percent, from 34,017,378 tonnes, a gain of 649,540. Uzbekistan added 456,503 tonnes, up 24.8 percent from 1,841,030, most of the net rise. China added 334,963 tonnes. The United States shed 275,208 tonnes, down 16.4 percent. Kenya shed 207,354 tonnes, down 71.9 percent from 288,444. Pakistan added 197,922 tonnes, up 42.8 percent. Vietnam added 163,221 tonnes from 11,213. Myanmar reported 187 tonnes in 2019 with no later values, while Afghanistan first reported 147.36 tonnes in 2023.

Russia Ranks Fourth by Volume

Russia ranked fourth at 1,149,405 tonnes, shedding 189,622 over five years, down 14.2 percent. The United Kingdom, fifth at 762,288 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten. Germany, sixth at 717,289 tonnes, is also outside the per-person top ten. Ukraine, seventh at 701,639 tonnes, added 70,346 in the latest year, up 11.1 percent, and sits at 50.94 grams per person.

Pakistan Ranks Eighth by Volume

Pakistan ranked eighth at 660,173 tonnes, adding 197,922 over five years, up 42.8 percent. Indonesia, ninth at 655,134 tonnes, shed 64,782 in the latest year. Belarus added 69,119 tonnes in the latest year, up 48.1 percent from 143,769.

Uzbekistan Leads Per Person

Uzbekistan's 176.56 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Tajikistan at 91.36 and Mongolia at 81.91. Kyrgyzstan followed at 66.36 grams and Belarus at 63.98. Belgium sat at 55.68 grams. China, the volume leader, sat at 30.83 grams per person.
