Cattle Fat; Unrendered Production by Country
Brazil remained the third-largest producer of unrendered cattle fat, adding 41,637 tonnes from 2020 to 2024, while U.S. production edged lower over the same period. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Cattle fat; unrendered, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 164 countries; 162 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 2,929,489 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.
In 2024, the United States was the largest listed producer of unrendered cattle fat at 733,074 tonnes, followed by China at 342,800 tonnes and Brazil at 334,288 tonnes. Together, these three countries accounted for 48.1 percent of the 2,929,489-tonne listed total.
The United States produced 2.14 times as much as China: 733,074 tonnes against 342,800, while Brazil ranked third with 334,288 tonnes, 8,512 tonnes behind China. The top two accounted for 36.7 percent of the listed total, while Brazil and Argentina ranked third and fourth with 334,288 and 250,186 tonnes respectively. The United States was the largest unrendered cattle fat producer in the 2024 listed data with 733,074 tonnes, followed by China with 342,800 tonnes and Brazil with 334,288 tonnes. Argentina ranked fourth with 250,186 tonnes. The United States holds 25.0 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 48.1 percent of the 2,929,489-tonne listed total. The common reporter universe (162 countries with data in both years) rose from 2,847,607 tonnes to 2,929,489 tonnes between 2023 and 2024, a change of 81,882 tonnes (2.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 2,852,888 tonnes (163 reporters) and 2,929,489 tonnes (162 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (5,281 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 41,637 tonnes (up 14.2 percent) and Australia 21,296 tonnes (up 15.9 percent), while Pakistan added 15,698 tonnes (up 17.9 percent). From 2020 to 2024 the common reporter universe (162 countries with data in both years) moved from 2,719,066 tonnes to 2,929,489 tonnes, a change of 210,423 tonnes (7.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 2,724,697 tonnes (164 reporters) and 2,929,489 tonnes (162 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2020 (Nicaragua, 5,304 tonnes, and Palestine, 326.85 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 78,781 tonnes (up 30.8 percent) and China 46,922 tonnes (up 15.9 percent), while Australia added 27,878 tonnes (up 21.9 percent). Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Cattle fat; unrendered, 2020-2024. For unrendered cattle fat production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 unrendered cattle fat production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the unrendered cattle fat production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For unrendered cattle fat production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
