Sheep Fat; Unrendered Production by Country

Australia stayed the second-largest unrendered sheep fat producer while adding 9,034 tonnes and narrowing the gap to China to 9,315 tonnes. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Sheep fat; unrendered, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 151 countries; 149 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 605,822 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

In 2024, China was the largest listed producer of unrendered sheep fat at 113,165 tonnes, followed by Australia at 103,850 tonnes and India at 55,032 tonnes. China and Australia together accounted for 35.8 percent of the 605,822-tonne listed total. Among countries reporting in both 2023 and 2024, listed production decreased by 989 tonnes, or 0.2 percent.

China and Australia run nearly level: 113,165 tonnes against 103,850, a gap of 9,315 tonnes. The pair holds 35.8 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 55,032 and 33,583 tonnes respectively.

Sheep Fat; Unrendered Production by Country in 2024

China was the largest unrendered sheep fat producer in the 2024 listed data with 113,165 tonnes, followed by Australia with 103,850 tonnes and India with 55,032 tonnes. Türkiye ranked fourth with 33,583 tonnes.

China holds 18.7 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 44.9 percent of the 605,822-tonne listed total.

Australia Adds 9,034 Tonnes as Sheep Fat; Unrendered Production Eases 0.2 Percent

The common reporter universe (149 countries with data in both years) slipped from 606,811 tonnes to 605,822 tonnes between 2023 and 2024, a change of -989 tonnes (-0.2 percent). The totals listed for each year were 606,812 tonnes (150 reporters) and 605,822 tonnes (149 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (1.02 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Australia added 9,034 tonnes (up 9.5 percent) and India 6,415 tonnes (up 13.2 percent), while Saudi Arabia fell 3,938 tonnes (down 22.8 percent) and Türkiye 3,924 tonnes (down 10.5 percent).

Australia Adds 30,178 Tonnes as Sheep Fat; Unrendered Production Grows 14.6 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

From 2020 to 2024 the common reporter universe (148 countries with data in both years) moved from 528,560 tonnes to 605,821 tonnes, a change of 77,261 tonnes (14.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 529,040 tonnes (150 reporters) and 605,822 tonnes (149 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2020 (Palestine, 479.72 tonnes, and Nicaragua, 1.01 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 1 new reporter added 0.77 tonnes (Bhutan). Australia added 30,178 tonnes (up 41.0 percent) and India 17,415 tonnes (up 46.3 percent), while Iran added 11,619 tonnes (up 55.4 percent).

For unrendered sheep fat production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 unrendered sheep fat production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the unrendered sheep fat production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For unrendered sheep fat production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
