Coconuts (In Shell) Production by Country (2026)

According to 2018-2024 FAO data across 85 territories, coconut production by country reached roughly 65.5 million tonnes in 2024. Indonesia led global coconut output, with India and the Philippines completing the top three. Brazil and Vietnam rounded out the top five, representing the leading non-Asian and Southeast Asian contributors.

2026 Outlook: Indonesia Remains the Largest Producer

Listed 2024 coconut production reached about 65.5 million tonnes worldwide. Indonesia accounted for 27.4% of that total with 17,985,386 tonnes, followed by India at 14,707,567 tonnes (22.4%) and Philippines at 14,500,416 tonnes (22.1%). Brazil ranked fourth with 3,158,018 tonnes, while Vietnam rounded out the top five at 2,280,323 tonnes.

Coconut production is heavily concentrated in tropical Asia and coastal equatorial regions, with the full ranking in the table below.

Asia Dominates While Latin America and Africa Add Volume

Sri Lanka produced 1,814,800 tonnes, Myanmar 1,329,374 tonnes, Thailand 975,238 tonnes, and Malaysia 673,553 tonnes, all contributing to Asia’s dominant share. In Latin America, Mexico (1,127,654 tonnes) and Dominican Republic (640,691 tonnes) led. Across Africa and the Pacific, Papua New Guinea (1,250,138 tonnes) and Ghana (544,774 tonnes) were the largest producers. The global coconut sector is shaped by smallholder farming, with millions of families depending on coconut-based income across tropical coastal regions.

Indonesia and Philippines Hold Steady at the Top

The 2026 estimates place Indonesia near 17,940,521 tonnes and Philippines near 14,446,899 tonnes, reflecting relatively stable output levels. India’s estimate of 14,846,624 tonnes suggests a flat trajectory after the post-2018 decline. Vietnam’s projected 2,336,289 tonnes and Brazil’s 3,230,410 tonnes indicate continued expansion in the second tier. These projections assume average growing conditions and do not account for extreme weather events, pest outbreaks, or policy shifts.
