India's 43.8 percent share leaves 62.0 percent for the top three combined, 69.2 for the top five and 81.8 for the top ten. Sri Lanka converts fifth place by volume into first per person at 22.6 grams a day, with Saint Lucia at 16.35 and Djibouti at 15.45 further back.

Changes from 2019 to 2023

One hundred sixty-one reporters bridge 2019 and 2023: their combined figure went from 4,830,693 tonnes to 5,496,832 — a 666,139-tonne, 13.8 percent advance. Cuba and Micronesia departed with 489 tonnes between them while Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Angola and Tuvalu joined with 7,661 — Azerbaijan biggest at 6,795 tonnes. India put on 592,677 tonnes (32.6 percent up), 89.0 percent of the net advance, while Canada came off 182,373 to zero; Ethiopia put on 106,260 (105.6 percent up) and Türkiye 98,296 (26.8 percent up), with Bangladesh off 95,479 (15.1 percent down), Iraq on 80,538 (107.4 percent up), Algeria on 78,450 (100.7 percent up) and Egypt off 42,557 (55.3 percent down).

2023 Up 12.5 Percent as India Rebounds

India put on 852,755 tonnes (54.7 percent up) while Canada came off 158,575 to zero; Bangladesh came off 142,104 (21.0 percent down) and Russia 124,307 (95.8 percent down), with Türkiye on 121,448 (35.4 percent up), Algeria on 78,346 (100.5 percent up), Sri Lanka on 57,036 (43.1 percent up) and Argentina off 43,734 (77.8 percent down).

Methodology

Every percentage compares two endpoint years across reporters holding values in both, with the earlier year as the base. Tonnes come from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts element 5141 (food supply quantity); daily grams per person from element 665 — for lentils, dry, 2019 through 2023. Counted is supply available for human consumption in the reference year, not intake. Zero-base years yield no percentage; a zero reports zero and a blank reports nothing.

Tables carry reporters alone — 167 held a value in at least one year from 2019 through 2023 — with World, regional and China (aggregate) rows omitted; China is the China reporter. Tonnes match FAO's publication, unrounded, and the 2023 listed total of 5,504,493 tonnes aggregates the 165 reporters with a 2023 value.
