The United States remained the largest fat of pigs producer, adding 58,920 tonnes, while production in China fell by 51,814 tonnes. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Fat of pigs, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table covers 145 countries; 144 have a reported 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 9,503,696 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

The United States and China run nearly level: 3,374,860 tonnes against 3,347,520, a gap of 27,340 tonnes. The pair holds 70.7 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 635,412 and 331,668 tonnes respectively.

In 2024, the United States ranked first in fat of pigs production at 3,374,860 tonnes, followed by China at 3,347,520 tonnes and Brazil at 635,412 tonnes. The 144 countries with reported 2024 quantities produced a combined 9,503,696 tonnes in the listed FAO data.

Fat of Pigs Production by Country in 2024

The United States was the largest fat of pigs producer in the 2024 listed data with 3,374,860 tonnes, followed by China with 3,347,520 tonnes and Brazil with 635,412 tonnes. Russia ranked fourth with 331,668 tonnes.

The United States holds 35.5 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 77.4 percent of the 9,503,696-tonne listed total.

United States Adds 58,920 Tonnes as Fat of Pigs Production Grows 0.9 Percent

From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (144 countries with data in both years) moved from 9,417,183 tonnes to 9,503,696 tonnes, a change of 86,513 tonnes (0.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 9,418,197 tonnes (145 reporters) and 9,503,696 tonnes (144 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (1,014 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. The United States added 58,920 tonnes (up 1.8 percent), while China fell 51,814 tonnes (down 1.5 percent) and the Philippines added 21,723 tonnes (up 12.6 percent).

China Adds 934,366 Tonnes as Fat of Pigs Production Grows 13.1 Percent Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (144 countries with data in both years) rose from 8,405,144 tonnes to 9,503,696 tonnes, a change of 1,098,552 tonnes (13.1 percent). The totals listed for each year were 8,406,044 tonnes (145 reporters) and 9,503,696 tonnes (144 reporters); 1 reporter present in 2020 (900.08 tonnes, Nicaragua) is absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. China added 934,366 tonnes (up 38.7 percent), accounting for 85.1 percent of the increase, while Brazil added 103,969 tonnes (up 19.6 percent) and the United States fell 62,560 tonnes (down 1.8 percent).

Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Fat of pigs, 2020-2024. For fat of pigs production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 fat of pigs production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the fat of pigs production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For fat of pigs production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
