Fruit Prepared n.e.c. Consumption by Country

The United States still prepares the most fruit: 1,527,545 tonnes, 18.0 percent of the listed consumption total. China followed at 1,153,635 tonnes and the Philippines at 772,131, while French Polynesia led per person at 54.48 grams. The 2023 figures total 8,478,619 tonnes across 174 countries, 173 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.

The United States recorded 1,527,545 tonnes of Fruit Prepared n.e.c. consumption in 2023, the highest national figure at 18.0 percent of the listed total. Per person, French Polynesia ranks first. The sharpest latest-year swing belongs to American (8.8 percent).

Germany placed fourth at 471,158 tonnes, with Indonesia fifth at 371,658 and Thailand sixth at 348,733. France, the United Kingdom, Taiwan and Australia closed the top ten between 196,312 and 348,442 tonnes. The top three held 40.7 percent of the annual listed consumption total, and the top five 50.7 percent. The United States had the highest listed food supply at 1,527,545 tonnes, while French Polynesia had the highest per-capita food supply at 54.48 grams per person.

• Chinese prepared fruit climbs: up 222,608 tonnes, or 23.9 percent, the biggest latest-year gain.

China Gains Ground on the United States in Fruit Prepared n.e.c.

China added 222,608 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 23.9 percent to 1,153,635 tonnes. Chile added 152,062 tonnes from 20,022. Spain added 131,386 tonnes from 20,903. Vietnam added 74,961 tonnes from a small base. The United States lost 146,546 tonnes, down 8.8 percent. South Korea shed 88,313 tonnes, down 50.7 percent. Canada gave up 65,281 tonnes, down 61.1 percent. The Netherlands fell 47,176 tonnes, down 33.8 percent. The 173 countries present in both years rose from 8,320,188 tonnes to 8,478,619 tonnes, up 158,431 tonnes, or 1.9 percent, with no entries or exits.

Five-Year Changes in Fruit Prepared n.e.c. Supply

Between 2019 and 2023, the 172 countries present in both years advanced from 7,550,480 tonnes to 8,478,619 tonnes, up 928,139 tonnes, or 12.3 percent. China added 361,715 tonnes, up 45.7 percent, accounting for 39.0 percent of the net gain. The United States added 316,526 tonnes, up 26.1 percent. Spain added 127,137 tonnes from 25,152 and Vietnam 79,433 tonnes from 22,835, the two steepest five-year climbs in percentage terms. South Korea lost 100,054 tonnes, down 53.8 percent. France shed 94,090 tonnes, down 21.3 percent. Russia gave up 75,660 tonnes, down 30.9 percent. One country left with 11,793 tonnes, and one arrived with nothing.

French Polynesia Tops Fruit Prepared n.e.c. per Person

French Polynesia's 54.48 grams a day beat the Dominican Republic's 41.99 in second and Samoa's 36.94 in third. New Zealand sat fourth at 27.78 grams, with Chile at 23.98 and Taiwan at 23.84. Tunisia, Iceland, Israel and Slovenia followed below 24 grams. The United States, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten. Island freezers outpace continental factories per head.

What the Fruit Prepared n.e.c. Data Covers

Otherwise-prepared fruit for human consumption is filed here in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. Two mid-table climbers multiplied roughly eightfold in a year, which is why the headline grew while the United States shrank.

Chile's 759.5 percent latest rate divides by 20,022 tonnes and Spain's 628.6 percent by 20,903 tonnes. Vietnam's 274.5 percent latest rate starts smaller still. South Korea halved in the latest year and was also among the largest five-year declines, falling 53.8 percent. No reported zero followed a large value, so no source-check warning applies.

In 2023, the United States had the largest reported supply of Fruit Prepared n.e.c. at 1,527,545 tonnes, accounting for 18.0 percent of the listed total. Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts catalogue tonnage for human consumption as element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for prepared fruit across 2019-2023. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base; a zero starting value is not used for percentage calculations. The universe reaches 174 countries after aggregates are removed, 173 with 2023 values. Only countries with values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.
