Prepared Groundnuts Consumption by Country

In 2023, China had the largest listed supply of prepared groundnuts at 61,416 tonnes, narrowly ahead of the Philippines at 60,376 tonnes. Norway led on a per-person basis at 4.76 grams per day. China accounted for 10.4 percent of the 589,358-tonne total. All figures count food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

South Korea placed fourth at 37,416 tonnes and the United States fifth at 26,913, with Germany sixth (19,396), Iraq seventh (18,345) and Canada eighth (17,468). The United Kingdom (16,014) and the Netherlands (12,260) completed the top ten. The top five held 40.3 percent of the total. Per person, New Zealand (3.73) and Seychelles (3.59) followed Norway, with Sierra Leone at 3.58.

The Latest Change in Prepared Groundnuts

Across the 168 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, supply fell 14.1 percent from 686,012 tonnes, a loss of 96,654 tonnes. Argentina's 64,733-tonne fall exceeded half the net loss, while China shed 34,210 tonnes and Tanzania 9,749. The Netherlands added 8,713 tonnes and France 5,200, while the Philippines lost 6,516 tonnes and Bulgaria 7,971.

Five-Year Change in Prepared Groundnuts

Among the 165 countries reporting in both 2019 and 2023, the total climbed 19.2 percent from 494,059 tonnes, a gain of 95,024 tonnes overall across the window. China added 47,335 tonnes, nearly half the net rise, while Argentina's 22,358-tonne fall offset part of it. The United Kingdom shed 16,350 tonnes (-50.5 percent). Iraq added 16,037 tonnes, and Tanzania fell 15,311 tonnes over five years.

The Per-Person Leaders of Prepared Groundnuts

Norway's 4.76 grams a day led the per-person table, ahead of New Zealand at 3.73 and Seychelles at 3.59. Sierra Leone (3.58) and Grenada (2.89) followed, with North Macedonia sixth at 2.83 and Sweden seventh at 2.31. Uruguay (2.22) and Iceland (2.16) came next. China, first by a narrow margin on volume, sat far down the per-person table at 0.12 grams, while the Philippines managed 1.44.

A Sharp Shift in Prepared Groundnuts

Argentina's path ran from 65,101 tonnes in 2020 to 1,787 in 2023, with the steepest drop in the latest year. Nigeria moved the other way from a tiny base, from 40.03 tonnes in 2022 to 4,918. China, by contrast, surged from 14,081 tonnes in 2019 to 117,508 in 2020 (+734.6 percent) before easing back.

For prepared groundnuts, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base.
