Groundnuts, Shelled Consumption by Country

In 2023, India had the largest listed supply of shelled groundnuts at 3,294,342 tonnes. India accounted for 26.0 percent of the 12,672,726-tonne total, followed by China at 2,750,992 tonnes. Niger led per person at 28.92 grams a day. India led the five-year rise, China the latest year. All figures count food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

The United States placed fourth at 1,179,902 tonnes and Indonesia fifth at 617,217, with Vietnam sixth (281,785), Niger seventh (276,136) and Myanmar eighth (195,299). DR Congo (193,018) and Ghana (177,579) completed the top ten. The top five held 73.0 percent of supply, and India stood 1.20 times China. Per person, Gabon (23.86) and Burkina Faso (20.5) followed Niger, with Nigeria at 16.89.

• India and China together held 47.7 percent of 2023 supply.
• Nigeria added 46,496 tonnes in the latest year while Indonesia lost 74,409.

The Newest Year for Shelled Groundnuts

Across the 156 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, supply rose 9.2 percent from 11,605,903 tonnes, a gain of 1,065,539 tonnes. China added 443,386 tonnes (+19.2 percent), the United States 267,495 (+29.3 percent) and India 220,689, while Indonesia lost 74,409. Mexico added 38,124 tonnes (+31.1 percent) and Vietnam 37,801 (+15.5 percent). The remaining 1,284 tonnes in the 2023 total came from countries without a 2022 value.

Where the Five-Year Growth Came From

Among the 153 countries reporting in both 2019 and 2023, the total moved from 11,374,417 tonnes to 12,643,160, a gain of 1,268,743 tonnes or 11.2 percent. India contributed 545,957 tonnes, or 43.0 percent of the net change, followed by China at 175,375 and the United States at 151,299. Nigeria added 135,927 tonnes while Indonesia lost 84,004. Burkina Faso added 75,609 tonnes (+78.2 percent) and Vietnam 61,291. The 29,566-tonne difference between the 2023 listed total and the common-country total came from countries without a positive 2019 value.

Per-Person Order in Shelled Groundnuts

Niger led at 28.92 grams a day, ahead of Gabon at 23.86 and Burkina Faso at 20.5. Nigeria (16.89) and Ghana (14.4) followed, with Zambia sixth at 12.95 and Guinea seventh at 12.36. India, first by volume, sat far down the per-person table, while Niger paired a top-ten volume with the per-person lead.

Ethiopia's 392.1 percent five-year rise began from 14,785 tonnes, while Burkina Faso's 78.2 percent five-year rise began from 96,641 tonnes. Both show how small starting points can produce striking percentages without moving the global total much.

For shelled groundnuts, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. Changes are measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 159 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 158 of them carry 2023 values. The numbers describe food available for human consumption.
