Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) Production by Country
Liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) production by country measures LPG produced for each country, in million barrels per day (Mb/d). This is a historical series: the source reports values for 2009 to 2014 only, with no recent data, so it cannot be compared with current consumption figures. The statistics are based on the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) International Energy Statistics. The table covers 115 countries, with 115 reported 2014 values. The world total stood at 3.9680 Mb/d in 2014, up from 3.8985 Mb/d in 2013.
China (0.7765 Mb/d) led in 2014, narrowly ahead of the United States (0.6480 Mb/d). Russia (0.5876 Mb/d), India (0.3127 Mb/d) and Brazil (0.1738 Mb/d) completed the top five. Empty means no reported value, not zero.
Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) Production by Country
China accounted for about 19.6% of the world total in 2014, producing about 1.2 times as much as the United States. The top two together held about 35.9%, the top three just over half at about 50.7%, the top five about 63.0%, and the top ten about 73.7%.
Change from 2013 to 2014
Russia recorded the largest increase in absolute terms, rising from 0.5448 to 0.5876 Mb/d (+0.0428 Mb/d, about 7.9%). The world total rose from 3.8985 to 3.9680 Mb/d (+0.0695 Mb/d, about 1.8%). The largest decline in absolute terms among reported pairs was Taiwan, falling from 0.0407 to 0.0299 Mb/d (-0.0108 Mb/d, about 26.5%).
How production changed across major producers
The top three all grew — Russia (+7.9%) fastest, then the United States (+5.4%) and China (+3.2%) — while India (-1.9%) and Brazil (-2.5%) edged down. South Korea also increased, rising 21.5% from 0.0549 to 0.0667 Mb/d. Taiwan fell 26.5%, from 0.0407 to 0.0299 Mb/d.
2009 to 2014 in this series
Reported world values were 3.5529 Mb/d in 2009 and 3.9680 Mb/d in 2014, an increase of about 11.7%. The figures describe a closed historical window and cannot be extended to the present. The figures show the change over time but do not explain its causes.
LPG production in context
Because this series ends in 2014, its rankings describe where LPG was produced in that year — not where production stands today. China led the 2014 ranking with 0.7765 Mb/d, followed by the United States at 0.6480 Mb/d and Russia at 0.5876 Mb/d. This page should be read as an archive of where LPG was produced in 2009-2014, not as a guide to current markets.

Methodology
The statistics are based on the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) International Energy Statistics. Values represent annual liquefied petroleum gases production in million barrels per day (Mb/d). This is a discontinued historical series covering 2009 to 2014; no values are reported after 2014. Where no value is available, the cell is left empty. A value of 0 indicates that the source reports zero. The sum of the countries listed on this page may not equal the reported world total because the country-level data presented here do not necessarily represent the complete set of values used for the world total. This page covers LPG production only and does not include consumption or other fuels, which are reported separately in the source.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries produced the most LPG in 2014?
China (0.7765 Mb/d), the United States (0.6480 Mb/d) and Russia (0.5876 Mb/d) reported the largest 2014 values, followed by India (0.3127 Mb/d) and Brazil (0.1738 Mb/d).
Why does this series end in 2014?
The source reports values for 2009 to 2014 only. No values are reported after 2014, so the table cannot be extended to the present.
Was growth evenly spread?
Among the major producers, mostly yes: the top three all grew between 3% and 8%, while India and Brazil edged down less than 3%. South Korea grew faster at +21.5%, but from a smaller base.
Is this comparable with current consumption data?
No. Production and consumption are different measures, and the years do not overlap with current series. This page describes 2009-2014 production only.
Data Disclaimer: Projected data (future years) are estimates based on mathematical models. Actual values may differ. Learn about our methodology →
