The table lists 196 countries; 194 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 373,367,300 tonnes. The 2024 country list for total meat production runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

China produced 2.05 times as much as the United States: 97,859,402 tonnes against 47,793,756, while Brazil ranks third with 29,642,575 tonnes, 18,151,181 tonnes behind the United States. The top two hold 39.0 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 29,642,575 and 13,209,091 tonnes respectively.

Meat; Total Production by Country in 2024

China was the largest meat producer in the 2024 listed data with 97,859,402 tonnes, followed by the United States with 47,793,756 tonnes and Brazil with 29,642,575 tonnes. India ranked fourth with 13,209,091 tonnes.

China holds 26.2 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 46.9 percent of the 373,367,300-tonne listed total.

Between 2023 and 2024, the common reporter universe (194 countries with data in both years) rose from 366,217,713 tonnes to 373,367,300 tonnes, a change of 7,149,587 tonnes (2.0 percent). The totals listed for each year were 366,550,113 tonnes (195 reporters) and 373,367,300 tonnes (194 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (332,400 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 1,777,671 tonnes (up 6.4 percent) and Australia 518,998 tonnes (up 10.3 percent), while Pakistan added 477,905 tonnes (up 8.9 percent).

China Adds 20,117,576 Tonnes as Meat; Total Production Grows 10.6 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

From 2020 to 2024 the common reporter universe (193 countries with data in both years) moved from 336,596,562 tonnes to 372,374,269 tonnes, a change of 35,777,707 tonnes (10.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 336,977,507 tonnes (195 reporters) and 373,367,300 tonnes (194 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2020 (Nicaragua, 308,639 tonnes, and Palestine, 72,306 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 1 new reporter added 993,030 tonnes (Romania). China added 20,117,576 tonnes (up 25.9 percent), accounting for 56.2 percent of the increase, while Brazil added 3,220,327 tonnes (up 12.2 percent) and India 2,267,938 tonnes (up 20.7 percent).

Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Meat; Total, 2020-2024. For total meat production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 total meat production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the total meat production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For total meat production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
