Other Berries and Fruits of the Genus Vaccinium n.e.c. Consumption by Country

Vietnam reported the largest listed food supply of other Vaccinium berries in 2023, at 111,165 tonnes, just 13.9 percent of the listed food-supply total. Papua New Guinea followed at 100,711 tonnes and China at 79,010, while Papua New Guinea ranked first per person at 26.56 grams. The 2023 total was 802,480 tonnes across 147 countries, 139 with values, measuring food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.

Poland placed fourth at 74,309 tonnes, with Bangladesh fifth at 73,057 and Mexico sixth at 46,874. Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and the United States closed the top ten between 28,428 and 41,240 tonnes. The top three held only 36.2 percent of the listed food-supply total, and the top five 54.6 percent.

China's Decline Drives the Latest-Year Fall

China shed 13,177 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, falling 14.3 percent. Poland lost 4,535 tonnes, down 5.8 percent. South Korea went from 3,527 tonnes to a reported zero. Bangladesh gave up 3,517 tonnes, down 4.6 percent. Armenia lost 2,466 tonnes, down 16.3 percent, and Estonia 2,405 tonnes, down 80.8 percent. The United States shed 1,793 tonnes, down 5.9 percent. Saudi Arabia added 1,849 tonnes from a small base. The 139 countries with reported values in both years fell from 837,187 tonnes to 802,480 tonnes, down 34,707 tonnes, or 4.1 percent, with no entries or exits.

Mexico's Drop Masks the Five-Year Gain

Between 2019 and 2023, the 131 countries with reported values in both years inched from 791,273 tonnes to 802,480 tonnes, up 11,207 tonnes, or 1.4 percent. Bangladesh added 48,023 tonnes, up 191.8 percent. Poland added 24,435 tonnes, up 49.0 percent. France added 14,714 tonnes, up 758.8 percent from a small base. Azerbaijan added 9,263 tonnes, up 37.8 percent, and Türkiye 8,338 tonnes, up 25.3 percent. China added 8,186 tonnes, up 11.6 percent. Mexico lost 98,620 tonnes, down 67.8 percent. The United Kingdom shed 7,679 tonnes, down 33.4 percent. Djibouti, Kiribati, Kuwait, Liberia, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa and Turkmenistan reported values in 2019 but not in 2023, totalling 166 tonnes; Belarus, Guinea-Bissau, Nauru, Oman, Sierra Leone, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu first reported values in the window, totalling about 0 tonnes with only tiny reported readings.

Papua New Guinea Leads per Person

Papua New Guinea's 26.56 grams a day more than doubled Armenia's 11.77 in second. Azerbaijan sat third at 8.97 grams, with Iceland at 5.60 and Poland at 5.25. Hungary recorded 4.83 grams. Vietnam, first by volume, did not approach the per-person top ten.

Annual totals admit reporting countries only. Tonnage shows which countries have the largest listed food supply, while the per-person figures show the amount available per resident each day. No leader clears even a seventh of supply, so the middle ranks decide every headline.
