Other Oil of Vegetable Origin, Crude N.E.C. Consumption by Country
Ethiopia reported 56,308 tonnes of other crude vegetable oil food supply in 2023, 15.6 percent of the listed total. China came second at 55,009 tonnes and South Korea third at 40,180. Per person, the Bahamas led at 16.10 grams. Yemen shed 20,722 tonnes in the latest year, while Belarus fell to zero. All figures count food available for human consumption, not actual intake.
Ethiopia Edges China
Ethiopia led at 56,308 tonnes, about 1.02 times China's 55,009 tonnes. South Korea sat third at 40,180 tonnes, ahead of Nigeria at 33,096 and Tanzania at 17,157. The top three held 42.0 percent of the 360,390-tonne total, and the top five 56.0 percent. Azerbaijan, Australia, Malaysia, Nepal and Uganda closed the top ten between 15,046 and 15,496 tonnes. Of 114 countries in the file, 111 carried a 2023 value.
Across the 110 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply fell 14.6 percent, from 421,836 tonnes, a loss of 61,445. Yemen shed 20,722 tonnes, down 97.4 percent from 21,279. Ethiopia fell 15,885 tonnes, down 22.0 percent. South Korea lost 6,158 tonnes and Nigeria declined 6,104. Azerbaijan dropped 3,936 tonnes. Belarus fell to zero from 3,281 tonnes; with a zero base, no percentage applies. Kazakhstan shed 2,897 tonnes, while Poland added 2,388 tonnes against the broader decline, up 21.6 percent. Among the 106 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply fell 28.8 percent, from 504,308 tonnes, a loss of 145,075. Kenya shed 24,862 tonnes, down 89.9 percent from 27,648. Ethiopia shed 23,387 tonnes, down 29.3 percent. Nepal shed 18,254 tonnes, down 54.7 percent, and Tanzania 17,661. Malaysia shed 11,028 tonnes. Nigeria shed 9,953 tonnes, down 23.1 percent, and Yemen 8,682, down 94.0 percent. Three countries left over the period, against five arrivals adding 1,158 tonnes. Tanzania sat fifth at 17,157 tonnes, falling from 34,818 tonnes in 2019 to 17,157 in 2023, after reaching 17,918 in 2022. South Korea, third at 40,180 tonnes, shed 6,158 lately. The Bahamas' 16.10 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Djibouti at 7.05 and Belize at 6.00. Azerbaijan paired sixth by volume with 4.11 grams. South Korea, third by volume, sat at 2.13 grams per person. Nepal paired ninth by volume with 1.39 grams. Ethiopia, the volume leader, sat at 1.20 grams, far down the per-person table. This page follows the SUA item labelled Other oil of vegetable origin, crude n.e.c. and counts only its rows; World, regional and aggregate rows are not in the table. The "n.e.c." label means "not elsewhere classified," referring to the FAOSTAT category rather than a specific named vegetable oil. The annual listed supply total sums the countries with a 2023 value. Food here means supply available for people to eat in the reference year, not amounts eaten. In 2023, Ethiopia had the largest listed supply of other oil of vegetable origin, crude n.e.c., at 56,308 tonnes, narrowly ahead of China at 55,009 tonnes. South Korea ranked third at 40,180 tonnes. Across 110 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, listed supply fell 14.6 percent. The Bahamas had the highest per-person supply at 16.10 grams per person per day. These figures represent food available for human consumption, not actual food intake. For other oil of vegetable origin, crude n.e.c., tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 114 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 111 carry 2023 values. Two leaders sit almost level in a falling total. The numbers describe food available for human consumption. Source: FAO FAOSTAT, compiled by StatsGeo.Yemen Collapses, Poland Grows
