Ukraine's 149-thousand-tonne drop equals 56.0 percent of the net increase in reverse, with Tanzania contributing 39.5 percent of the growth. Per capita, Belize's 9.31 kilograms from 4 thousand tonnes lead Canada at 8.74 kilograms, while Brazil, first by total, records 4.06 kilograms.

What Does Other Oilcrops Oil Consumption Measure?

For FAO Food Balances, the oilcrops oil other figure used here covers oils from oilcrops outside the separately recorded oil items, recorded under the Food element as available for human consumption. It represents food available for human consumption during the reference year, rather than a direct estimate of how much of these oils people actually consumed. Oils recorded under their own items sit outside this figure.

The per-capita figure expresses the same food supply on a population basis, in kilograms per person per year. A country's total quantity and per-capita value therefore answer different questions: total quantity shows the size of the listed food supply, while the per-capita measure adjusts it for population.

Other Oilcrops Oil Consumption by Country: Quick Answer

In 2023, Brazil had the largest listed other oilcrops oil food supply among the 176 reporters with reported values, at 857 thousand tonnes. Russia ranked second at 440 thousand tonnes, while the United States ranked third at 365 thousand tonnes. Belize had the highest per-capita other oilcrops oil food supply at 9.31 kilograms per person per year. These FAO Food Balances figures represent food available for human consumption, not a direct measurement of other oilcrops oil actually eaten.

Methodology

Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals use FAO Food Balances food quantity (Element 5142, thousand tonnes), while the per-capita figures use food supply quantity (Element 645, kg/capita/year) for Oilcrops oil, Other from 2019 through 2023. The Food element represents the quantity available for human consumption during the reference period. It is not a direct measure of the amount actually eaten, as food can be lost or wasted before it is consumed. No percentage change is shown where the base-year value is zero.

The reporter universe for this item contains 177 reporters. The tables list reporters only; aggregate rows such as World, regions and China (aggregate) are excluded, while China figures refer to the China reporter. For year-to-year comparisons, only reporters with values in both endpoint years are included in the arithmetic. A zero indicates a displayed value of zero, while an empty cell indicates that no value is available for that reporter and year.

Quantities of 1,000 thousand tonnes and above are shown as whole numbers; smaller quantities retain up to two decimals. FAO Food Balances primarily use official national statistics, with some data also estimated or imputed where applicable. The FAO dataset reports the Food element in thousand tonnes and food supply quantity in kilograms per capita per year. The 2023 listed total of 6,969 thousand tonnes is the sum of the 176 reporters with a reported 2023 value; it excludes aggregate rows and reporters without a 2023 value.

Frequently Asked Questions

How spread out is other oilcrops oil food supply across reporters?

Brazil led in 2023 with 857 thousand tonnes, or 12.3 percent of the 6,969-thousand-tonne total. The top ten reporters together hold 49.8 percent, leaving most of the listed total outside the top ten.

How did Tanzania triple its other oilcrops oil food supply?

Tanzania rose from 46 thousand tonnes in 2019 to 151 thousand tonnes in 2023, an increase of 105 thousand tonnes (up 228.3 percent). The FAO Food Balances data show the movement but do not establish its cause.

Is other oilcrops oil food supply the same as oil actually eaten?

No. The FAO Food element measures the quantity available for human consumption in the food balance. It does not directly measure how much people actually ate, because food can be lost or wasted after it becomes available to consumers.
