Bangladesh Dominates the 2023 Total

  • Bangladesh holds 99.7 percent — 755 times second-placed Myanmar.
  • Five years added 5.3 percent on two reporters; the latest added 8.3 percent.
  • Nine reporters entered since 2019 with 82 tonnes between them; every other displayed per-capita value is 0.

Bangladesh Holds 99.7 Percent

Bangladesh's 61,764 tonnes top the 2023 table at 99.7 percent of the listed total, 755 times Myanmar's 82 in second. Russia follows at 55 with South Korea at 21; the top three hold 100.0 percent. Vietnam, Lesotho, Uganda, the Bahamas, Algeria and DR Congo complete the ten — all at zero in 2023.

A 5.3 Percent Rise Since 2019

The common total moved from 58,755 tonnes to 61,846, up 3,091 tonnes or 5.3 percent across 2 reporters — Bangladesh, up 3,009 (up 5.1 percent), and Myanmar from zero to 82. The latest year added 4,753 tonnes or 8.3 percent across 9 reporters, with Bangladesh adding 4,686 (up 8.2 percent), Russia 55 from zero and Myanmar 26 (up 47.3 percent); Vietnam fell 13 (down 68.9 percent) while Ghana fell 1 to zero and Uganda fell 1 (down 84.9 percent). Across the five-year period, two reporters present in 2019 dropped out, with 19 tonnes between them, while nine new reporters appeared with 82 tonnes.

What Do Other Sugar Crops Cover?

The FAO item gathers other sugar crops not elsewhere classified — the residual after cane and beet, which have their own articles. It is a separate residual category rather than a combined measure of cane and beet sugar. Food supply quantity captures what was available for human consumption during the reference year. The gram-per-day figure spreads that availability across the population on a daily basis — here 0.99 grams for Bangladesh and zero for everyone else.

Other Sugar Crops Consumption by Country: Quick Answer

Methodology

The dataset contains 13 reporters with a value in at least one year from 2019 through 2023; the tables print reporters only, with World, regional and China (aggregate) rows excluded and China standing for the China reporter. Percentages take the earlier endpoint year as base across reporters present in both years. Zero-base years get no percentage. A reported zero is treated as zero, while a blank value indicates that no value was reported.

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts food supply quantity, element 5141 in tonnes for totals and element 665 in grams per capita per day, follows this residual item over 2019-2023. The counted object is availability for human consumption in the reference year, not intake. The 2023 listed total of 61,928 tonnes sums the 11 reporters with a 2023 value, in tonnes as published. Frequently Asked Questions

Why does one country hold 99.7 percent?

Bangladesh reported 61,764 tonnes in 2023 against Myanmar's 82 in second. The figures describe the concentration, not its causes.

What moved in the latest year?

Bangladesh added 4,686 tonnes with Russia adding 55 from zero and Myanmar 26, against falls led by Vietnam's 13. The figures record each move without attributing causes.

What does "other sugar crops n.e.c." mean?

It is the residual sugar-crop category for crops fitting no other item, after cane and beet; the figures cover only what falls inside that basket.
