Iceland records the highest per-person figure at 76.38 grams a day.

The United States sits top at 1,632,506 tonnes, 2.38 times the United Kingdom at 686,525, with Iran third at 211,693 and Germany fourth at 185,824. Per person Iceland doubles the field from a small total: 76.38 grams a day from 10,805 tonnes, while the Marshall Islands and Montenegro tie at 60.68 grams. The United States, first by total, records 13.02 grams per person.

The United States added 569,241 tonnes in five years — 42.2 percent of the net increase. Germany climbed from 10,523 to 185,824 tonnes, the Philippines from 35,519 to 107,372 and Denmark from 31,232 to 95,477, all large multiples from small starts, while India fell from 110,666 to 33,195 tonnes and Saudi Arabia from 116,734 to 51,354.

The 2023 table opens with the United States at 1,632,506 tonnes, the United Kingdom second at 686,525 and Iran third at 211,693. Germany and Kenya follow at 185,824 and 174,612 tonnes. The United States holds 23.3 percent of the 7,002,045-tonne listed total.

The top three reporters accounted for 36.1 percent of the listed total, the top five 41.3 percent and the top ten 52.3 percent. Per capita, Iceland's 76.38 grams per person per day lead a ranking where the Marshall Islands at 860 tonnes and Montenegro at 14,032 tonnes record an identical 60.68 grams.

Up 0.5 Percent in a Year of Big Swings

Across the 176 reporters with values in both 2022 and 2023, listed supply moved from 6,969,777 tonnes to 7,002,045 tonnes, up 32,268 tonnes or 0.5 percent. The two years share the same 176 reporters, with none entering or leaving. Germany added 83,800 tonnes (up 82.1 percent), the United Kingdom 45,596 (up 7.1 percent), France 39,377 (up 138.3 percent), the United States 39,207 (up 2.5 percent), DR Congo 38,326 (up 277.4 percent) and Denmark 36,213 (up 61.1 percent), while Iran fell 103,849 tonnes (down 32.9 percent) and Türkiye 40,047 (down 24.9 percent).

Iran's fall from 315,542 to 211,693 tonnes against Germany's rise from 102,024 to 185,824 accounts for nearly the entire net figure on its own. France's rise from 28,471 to 67,848 tonnes and DR Congo's from 13,818 to 52,144 are sharp proportional gains from smaller bases.

Germany Up Nearly Eighteen-Fold in Five Years

For the 176 reporters with values in both 2019 and 2023, listed supply rose from 5,652,028 tonnes to 7,002,045 tonnes, up 1,350,017 tonnes or 23.9 percent. The 2019 universe holds 177 reporters with values against 176 in 2023; Cuba, with 11,897 tonnes in 2019, has no 2023 value. The United States added 569,241 tonnes (up 53.5 percent), Germany 175,301, the United Kingdom 129,460 (up 23.2 percent), Iran 127,719 (up 152.1 percent), the Philippines 71,853 (up 202.3 percent) and Denmark 64,245 (up 205.7 percent), while India fell 77,471 tonnes (down 70.0 percent) and Saudi Arabia 65,380 (down 56.0 percent).

The United States contributes 42.2 percent of the five-year net increase, Germany 13.0 percent and the United Kingdom 9.6 percent. Germany's rise from 10,523 to 185,824 tonnes is a 17.66-fold increase, and India's fall from 110,666 to 33,195 tonnes removed more than two thirds of its 2019 supply.

Totals are FAO Supply Utilization Accounts food supply quantity (element 5141, tonnes); per-capita figures are element 665 in grams per capita per day — both for pastry, 2019 through 2023. The elements count supply made available for human consumption over the reference period. A displayed zero means zero and a blank cell means no value was reported, and no percentage is shown where the base-year value is zero.

This item covers 177 reporters in total, reporters only: World, regional and China (aggregate) rows are left out entirely, so China here means the China reporter.
