China reported 11,458,366 tonnes of green pea food supply in 2023, 57.4 percent of the listed total. India came second at 6,046,388 tonnes and Pakistan third at 367,588. Per person, China led at 22.07 grams a day. India added 376,406 tonnes in the latest year, while Ethiopia quadrupled, adding 9,525. All figures describe food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

China Leads, India Chases

China led, 1.90 times India. Pakistan sat third at 367,588 tonnes, ahead of the United States at 238,850 and Algeria at 193,882. The top three held 89.5 percent of the 19,977,462-tonne total, and the top five 91.6 percent. France, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Türkiye and Peru closed the top ten between 119,459 and 169,780 tonnes. Of 169 countries in the file, 166 carried a 2023 value.

India Adds Most, Ethiopia Quadruples

Across the 162 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 1.4 percent, from 19,694,696 tonnes, a gain of 282,727. India added 376,406 tonnes, up 6.6 percent, exceeding the net rise alone. Kenya shed 34,853 tonnes, down 21.0 percent. China shed 33,963 tonnes. France shed 28,500 tonnes, down 14.4 percent. Türkiye added 22,897 tonnes, up 22.4 percent. The United States shed 18,826 tonnes, while Pakistan added 11,864 and Ethiopia 9,525, quadrupling from 2,965.

India and China Drive Five Years

Among the 158 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 9.9 percent, from 18,169,559 tonnes, a gain of 1,807,278. India added 951,103 tonnes, up 18.7 percent from 5,095,285. China added 612,991 tonnes, up 5.7 percent. Pakistan added 210,698 tonnes, more than doubling from 156,890. Kenya added 68,843 tonnes, doubling from 61,882. Egypt shed 43,938 tonnes, down 32.7 percent. Türkiye added 41,709 tonnes, up 50.0 percent from 83,424. Eight countries joined over the period, adding 626 tonnes, against three departures.

China Leads Per Person Too

China's 22.07 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Hungary at 15.35 and Belize at 13.33. India followed at 11.52 grams and Algeria at 11.51. Tunisia sat at 11.11 grams and Peru at 9.67. Kenya, eighth by volume at 130,725 tonnes, sat at 6.47 grams per person.
