Plantains and Cooking Bananas Consumption by Country

Uganda reported 10,019,427 tonnes of plantain and cooking banana food supply in 2023, accounting for 28.0 percent of the listed total. Guatemala Rises From Zero

Across the 139 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 1.1 percent, from 35,345,942 tonnes, a gain of 390,467. Guatemala added 402,642 tonnes from a zero base, exceeding the net rise alone. Saudi Arabia shed 138,066 tonnes, down 43.6 percent overall. Uganda shed 128,244 tonnes overall. Colombia added 99,313 tonnes, up 5.4 percent overall. Venezuela shed 60,850 tonnes, down 10.3 percent overall. Rwanda added 49,552 tonnes, while the United States added 48,455 tonnes and Guinea 40,614 tonnes overall. One country joined, adding 986 tonnes overall.

Nigeria Falls to Zero Over Five Years

Among the 133 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 1.1 percent, from 35,326,530 tonnes, a gain of 388,683. Nigeria fell from 2,827,164 tonnes in 2019 to a reported zero in 2023, the largest five-year decline in the file. Uganda added 1,525,438 tonnes, up 18.0 percent overall. Guatemala added 402,642 tonnes from a zero base overall. Myanmar added 378,497 tonnes, up 51.9 percent overall. Guinea added 213,318 tonnes, up 48.0 percent overall.

Ghana Holds Second

Ghana sat second at 4,083,791 tonnes, shedding 298,006 tonnes over five years, down 6.8 percent. Per person, Ghana sat third at 331.14 grams. Ivory Coast, sixth at 1,696,514 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten. Cameroon, seventh at 1,554,323 tonnes, sat at 150.09 grams per person. Myanmar, eighth at 1,107,502 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten. The Dominican Republic, ninth at 1,041,944 tonnes, sat at 251.93 grams per person. Colombia, fifth at 1,945,354 tonnes, added 99,313 tonnes in the latest year and 305,508 from 1,639,846 over five. Rwanda closed the top ten at 966,532 tonnes, adding 49,552 tonnes lately.

Uganda Leads Per Person Too

Uganda's 564.17 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Sao Tome and Principe at 409.77 and Ghana at 331.14. Gabon followed at 299.61 grams and Guyana at 255.29. The Dominican Republic sat at 251.93 grams. Rwanda followed at 189.76 grams. Cameroon sat at 150.09 grams. Ivory Coast sat at 149.14 grams. Guinea followed at 125.06 grams.

For plantains and cooking bananas, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. Uganda leads both by total supply and per person, while Nigeria falls to a reported zero and Guatemala rises from zero.
