Plums and Sloes Consumption by Country
The annual listed food supply total for plums and sloes was 9,917,915 tonnes. China held 6,507,177 tonnes, 65.6 percent, ahead of Romania at 310,966 tonnes. Iran followed at 298,853 tonnes, while Bosnia and Herzegovina led per person at 149.37 grams. These 2023 figures cover food available for human consumption in 169 countries, 166 with values, from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.
China holds 6,507,177 tonnes of plums and sloes, 65.6 percent, Romania second at 310,966, with Iran third. Bosnia and Herzegovina takes daily grams. The comparable country group fell 2.0 percent from 2022 to 2023 but was 3.4 percent higher than in 2019.
In 2023, China had the largest listed food supply of plums and sloes at 6,507,177 tonnes, while Bosnia and Herzegovina had the highest food supply per person at 149.37 grams per person per day. The 169-country dataset lists 9,917,915 tonnes in total, with 166 countries reporting a 2023 value. Türkiye placed fourth at 284,053 tonnes, followed by Russia at 247,735 and Serbia at 239,224. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Ukraine and Italy filled the next four places between 116,946 and 173,656 tonnes. The top three accounted for 71.8 percent of the annual listed food supply total, and the top five 77.1 percent. China had the highest listed food supply, while Bosnia and Herzegovina had the highest per-capita food supply. Serbia shed 113,779 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, falling 32.2 percent to 239,224 tonnes. China slipped 62,714 tonnes, down 1.0 percent, while Iraq lost 38,398 tonnes, or 62.4 percent. Ukraine gave up 21,734 tonnes, down 14.5 percent, and Russia 21,019 tonnes, down 7.8 percent. Against that drag, Iran added 51,557 tonnes, up 20.8 percent, and Vietnam added 47,898 tonnes, up 1,821.9 percent from a tiny base. France added 33,671 tonnes, up 93.0 percent. The 165 countries present in both years moved from 10,117,344 tonnes to 9,917,915 tonnes, down 199,429 tonnes, or 2.0 percent, with one arrival and no departures. Between 2019 and 2023, the 162 countries present in both years grew from 9,589,879 tonnes to 9,917,909 tonnes, up 328,030 tonnes, or 3.4 percent. China added 354,471 tonnes, up 5.8 percent, accounting for 108.1 percent of the net gain. Bosnia and Herzegovina added 108,171 tonnes, up 165.2 percent, and Vietnam added 49,777 tonnes from a tiny base. Türkiye added 44,745 tonnes, up 18.7 percent, and Pakistan 24,607 tonnes, up 58.8 percent. Romania shed 80,302 tonnes, down 20.5 percent. Serbia lost 54,983 tonnes, down 18.7 percent, and Ukraine 48,541 tonnes, down 27.5 percent. Three countries stopped reporting over the period, holding 72 tonnes, while four arrived with 7. Bosnia and Herzegovina's 149.37 grams a day dwarfed every other figure, sitting more than half again above Serbia's 96.76. Romania followed at 44.56 grams, with Albania at 36.42 and Moldova at 25.75. Libya recorded 20.62 grams. China, the runaway volume leader, did not feature in the per-person top ten at all. The volume ranking is dominated by China, while the highest per-person figures are concentrated in the Balkans. This dataset tracks plums and sloes available for human consumption, pairing tonnage with daily grams per person for each reporting country between 2019 and 2023. Only countries with a reported value enter each year's total, and the two measures answer separate questions: scale of supply versus intensity per resident. A large harvest in a populous country decides the tonnage order, while steady eating habits in a small country decide the per-person order. Vietnam's leap deserves a caution: gains above 1,800 percent in one window and 6,600 percent across five years came from a tiny base, so the percentages flatter a move of under 50,000 tonnes. In FAO Supply Utilization Accounts, element 5141 denotes food supply quantity in tonnes for human consumption and element 665 denotes food supply quantity in grams per person per day, both shown here for plums and sloes across 2019-2023. Changes divide by the earlier year, and no rate is given from a zero base. The dataset covers 169 reporting countries and territories, excluding aggregate rows, with 166 carrying 2023 values. Year-to-year arithmetic admits only countries valued in both endpoints. The 2023 listed total sums the 166 countries with a 2023 entry. Reported zeros stay zeros, blanks stay blanks, and sub-1,000 values keep two decimals.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Which country ranked second per person?
Serbia ranked second per person in 2023 at 96.76 grams per day, well behind Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Romania third at 44.56 grams per day, far above Albania at 36.42 grams.
How top-heavy was the 2023 table?
Very: China held 65.6 percent of the annual listed food supply total, the top three took 71.8 percent, and only ten countries passed 116,946 tonnes in total.
How much did Serbia lose lately?
Serbia shed 113,779 tonnes, down 32.2 percent to 239,224 tonnes, the deepest single fall as the common-country total slipped 2.0 percent overall in that year.
Is this what people actually ate?
No. The figures measure food available for human consumption in the reference year, not actual intake, so real diets sit well below these supply levels.
Did Romania recover its long slide?
No. Romania shed 80,302 tonnes across five years, down 20.5 percent to 310,966 tonnes, though it stayed second by volume throughout the whole window despite the slide.
