Australia stayed the third-largest pulses producer while adding 1,366,481 tonnes and Canada added 1,231,190 tonnes. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Pulses; Total, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 173 countries; 171 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 96,887,428 tonnes. The 2024 country list for total pulses production runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

India produced 4.14 times as much as Canada: 25,398,565 tonnes against 6,139,547, while Australia ranks third with 5,412,379 tonnes, 727,168 tonnes behind Canada. The top two hold 32.6 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 5,412,379 and 4,913,865 tonnes respectively.

Pulses; Total Production by Country in 2024

India was the largest pulses producer in the 2024 listed data with 25,398,565 tonnes, followed by Canada with 6,139,547 tonnes and Australia with 5,412,379 tonnes. China ranked fourth with 4,913,865 tonnes.

India holds 26.2 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 38.1 percent of the 96,887,428-tonne listed total.

The common reporter universe (169 countries with data in both years) rose from 93,407,313 tonnes to 96,875,028 tonnes between 2023 and 2024, a change of 3,467,715 tonnes (3.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 93,584,760 tonnes (170 reporters) and 96,887,428 tonnes (171 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (177,447 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while 2 new reporters joined (Portugal, 12,360 tonnes, and Bahrain, 40 tonnes). Australia added 1,366,481 tonnes (up 33.8 percent) and Canada 1,231,190 tonnes (up 25.1 percent), while India fell 1,146,679 tonnes (down 4.3 percent).

Australia Adds 2,109,049 Tonnes as Pulses; Total Production Grows 3.3 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (168 countries with data in both years) rose from 93,796,534 tonnes to 96,868,872 tonnes, a change of 3,072,338 tonnes (3.3 percent). The totals listed for each year were 94,014,752 tonnes (170 reporters) and 96,887,428 tonnes (171 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2020 (Nicaragua, 210,911 tonnes, and Palestine, 7,307 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 3 new reporters joined (Portugal, 12,360 tonnes, the Netherlands, 3,720 tonnes, and Qatar, 2,476 tonnes). Australia added 2,109,049 tonnes (up 63.8 percent), while Canada fell 2,026,453 tonnes (down 24.8 percent) and Kazakhstan added 917,507 tonnes (up 257.6 percent).

For total pulses production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 total pulses production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the total pulses production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For total pulses production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
