Skim Sheep Milk Supply by Country
In 2023, Türkiye recorded the largest reported food supply of skim sheep milk, at 253,916 tonnes, accounting for 48.3 percent of the 525,822-tonne total across 10 reporting countries. Afghanistan ranked second with 79,249 tonnes, followed by Iran at 58,852 tonnes. Türkiye also had the highest per-capita supply, at 7.97 grams per person per day. These FAO figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually drank.
Saudi Arabia ranked fourth with 35,483 tonnes, followed by Yemen at 32,300 tonnes and Morocco at 22,945 tonnes. Iraq recorded 18,708 tonnes, the United Arab Emirates 13,851, Oman 6,320 and Tunisia 4,198. The three largest suppliers accounted for 74.6 percent of the reported total, while the top five together represented 87.4 percent. Türkiye's reported skim sheep milk supply fell by 36,382 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, a decrease of 12.5 percent. Afghanistan declined by 1,063 tonnes, while Morocco fell by 665 tonnes. In contrast, Iran added 1,943 tonnes, Yemen increased by 500 tonnes, and the United Arab Emirates rose by 365 tonnes. Across the same 10 countries, total reported supply decreased from 560,658 to 525,822 tonnes, a fall of 34,836 tonnes, or 6.2 percent. The reporting-country group was unchanged between the two years. Across the 10 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, total supply decreased from 670,361 to 525,822 tonnes, a decline of 144,539 tonnes, or 21.6 percent. Türkiye accounted for the largest reduction, with supply falling by 165,246 tonnes, or 39.4 percent. Saudi Arabia and Morocco also recorded smaller declines. Meanwhile, Afghanistan increased by 9,264 tonnes, the United Arab Emirates by 5,390 tonnes, and Iran by 5,252 tonnes. All 10 countries reported values at both endpoints. Türkiye ranked first in per-capita skim sheep milk supply at 7.97 grams per person per day. Afghanistan followed at 5.24 grams, and the United Arab Emirates ranked third at 3.57 grams. Oman recorded 3.43 grams, Saudi Arabia 2.92, and Yemen 2.25. Iran, Morocco, Iraq and Tunisia each recorded less than 1.8 grams per person per day. Türkiye led both the total-volume and per-capita rankings in 2023. The dataset reports skim sheep milk food supply in tonnes and grams per person per day for 10 countries over 2019-2023. Total tonnage measures the reported quantity available for human consumption, while the per-capita indicator adjusts supply for population size. Neither measure establishes how much milk people actually consumed. In 2023, Türkiye ranked first by both total and per-capita supply. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts provide food-supply figures for skim sheep milk in tonnes (element 5141) and grams per person per day (element 665) for 2019-2023. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base; percentage changes are not calculated when the base value is zero. After aggregate rows are excluded, the dataset covers 10 countries, all of which have reported values for 2023. Year-to-year and five-year comparisons use countries with reported values at both endpoints. The 2023 total is the sum of all 10 reporting countries. Reported zeroes are retained, blanks are treated as missing, and values below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimal places.
