China had by far the largest supply of soya sauce in 2023 at 3,223,432 tonnes, equal to 75.9 percent of the 4,247,729-tonne total. Soya Sauce: What the Latest Year Changed

Across the 175 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, the common-country consumption total moved from 4,117,908 tonnes to 4,247,729. That was a gain of 129,821 tonnes, or 3.2 percent. China added 169,275 tonnes, up 5.5 percent, while the Philippines lost 10,733 tonnes, down 16.9 percent, and Malaysia 8,549. No country entered or left that one-year comparison, so the net reflects same-country movement. The Philippines and Malaysia eased alongside the net rise.

Soya Sauce Over Five Years

Among the 172 countries reporting in both 2019 and 2023, the total moved from 3,869,573 tonnes to 4,246,098, a gain of 376,525 tonnes or 9.7 percent. The increase was heavily concentrated in China: its supply rose by 316,381 tonnes, accounting for 84.0 percent of that net increase. Malaysia added 32,638 tonnes and South Korea 13,178, while declines in the Philippines and Russia offset part of the gain. Cuba left after 47.95 tonnes, and three small entrants added 1,631 tonnes, led by Myanmar at 986.82.

Where Soya Sauce Runs Strongest Per Person

The Marshall Islands recorded just 456.82 tonnes but the highest per-person supply, at 32.23 grams a day, ahead of Malaysia at 25.48. Kiribati followed at 9.09, Samoa at 6.87 and Nauru at 6.5. China sat ninth despite its tonnage, while Malaysia paired mass with intensity. The intensity ranking does not follow the volume ranking.

Methodology

Tonnes are FAO food supply quantity for 2019-2023, with element 5141 marking the country-total series and element 665 marking grams per person per day. Changes divide by the earlier year; zero base yields no percentage. Only countries with values in both compared years enter those changes. Reported zero and blank are never equated. The table covers 176 countries and omits World, regions and aggregates; among them, 175 hold a 2023 value. Figures describe food available for human consumption.
