Strawberries Consumption by Country
China accounted for 41.1 percent of the listed strawberry food supply in 2023, with 3,738,158 tonnes out of a global total of 9,090,473 tonnes across reporting countries. The United States ranked second at 1,256,634 tonnes, followed by Egypt at 615,144 tonnes. Per person, however, Belarus led with 23.03 grams per day, ahead of Egypt at 14.71 grams and Türkiye at 12.71 grams. FAO data for 2019 to 2023 show that total listed food supply rose by 2.9 percent in the latest year and by 16.5 percent over five years among countries reporting values at both endpoints.
China ranked first by total strawberry food supply in 2023, while Belarus ranked first by daily food supply per person. The dataset records 9.09 million tonnes across 163 countries with reported 2023 values. These figures represent food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten. The distinction matters: China led the total-volume ranking, but Belarus had the highest per-person figure.
Mexico placed fourth at 428,654 tonnes, with Türkiye fifth at 404,886 and Russia sixth at 307,355. Germany, Brazil, the United Kingdom and South Korea completed the top ten between 140,179 and 229,064 tonnes. The top three held 61.7 percent of the annual listed food supply total, and the top five 70.9 percent. China had the highest listed food supply, while Belarus had the highest per-capita food supply. China added 196,660 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 5.6 percent. Mexico added 76,837 tonnes, up 21.8 percent, and Egypt 37,460 tonnes, up 6.5 percent. Spain added 35,657 tonnes, up 81.1 percent. The United States shed 34,920 tonnes, down 2.7 percent, while Türkiye lost 26,184 tonnes, down 6.1 percent. The United Kingdom fell 14,904 tonnes, down 8.8 percent, and Germany 13,951 tonnes, down 5.7 percent. The 163 countries present in both years rose from 8,832,859 tonnes to 9,090,473 tonnes, up 257,613 tonnes, or 2.9 percent, with no entries or exits. Across the 159 countries with values in both 2019 and 2023, strawberry food supply increased from 7,803,238 to 9,090,461 tonnes, a rise of 1,287,223 tonnes, or 16.5 percent. China contributed 893,072 tonnes of additional supply, accounting for 69.4 percent of the net increase. The United States added 258,641 tonnes, while Egypt and Türkiye gained 152,493 and 131,194 tonnes, respectively. Mexico moved in the opposite direction, losing 241,059 tonnes, or 36.0 percent, over the period. South Korea also declined, by 69,166 tonnes. Russia and Colombia recorded increases of 59,373 and 58,622 tonnes, respectively. Four countries had no reported value at the 2023 endpoint despite reporting in 2019, while four others appeared in the later dataset; the latter group recorded a combined 12 tonnes. Belarus reached 23.03 grams a day, far above Egypt's 14.71 in second and Türkiye's 12.71 in third. Moldova followed at 10.21 grams, with the United States at 10.02 and North Macedonia at 9.23. Belgium, Mexico, Austria and Estonia sat between 8.17 and 9.12 grams. China, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten entirely. Belarus ranked first per person despite having a much smaller total supply than the leading countries by volume. The dataset tracks strawberry food supply in tonnes and grams per person per day for individual reporting countries from 2019 through 2023. Annual totals include countries with reported values, while regional and other aggregate entries are excluded. Total tonnage shows the scale of listed food supply; the per-person measure adjusts that supply for population size. The two rankings therefore answer different questions: which countries have the largest total supply and which have the highest supply relative to their populations. Mexico's path is the file's puzzle: a five-year loss of 241,059 tonnes, then a sharp latest-year rebound. Whether that marks a turn or a pause, the numbers alone cannot say. Spain reported zero in 2020 between substantial values in 2019 and 2021, so that zero merits checking against the source. Within FAO Supply Utilization Accounts, element 5141 stands for tonnage for human consumption and element 665 for daily grams per person, recorded for strawberries over 2019-2023. Percentage moves divide by the earlier year, and zero bases receive no percentage. The universe counts 167 countries without aggregates, 163 showing 2023 values. Comparisons use only countries holding values at both ends. The 2023 listed total aggregates every country with a 2023 entry. Reported zero differs from blank, and values under 1,000 always keep two decimals.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Who sits behind Belarus per person?
Belarus clearly led strawberries per person in 2023, far above second-placed Egypt at 14.71 grams with Türkiye next at 12.71 grams a day in the same table.
How heavy is China's share?
China held 41.1 percent of the annual listed food supply total, the top three reached 61.7 percent, and the top ten 81.8 percent of supply.
Which country contributed most to the latest increase?
China recorded the largest absolute increase, adding 196,660 tonnes between 2022 and 2023. That represented about 76 percent of the net increase across the 163 countries with values in both years.
Is this how many strawberries people actually eat?
No. The figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually eat. They should be interpreted as food supply indicators rather than direct measurements of dietary intake.
Did Mexico turn around its long fall?
Mexico added 76,837 tonnes in the latest year, up 21.8 percent, against a five-year loss of 241,059 tonnes, down 36.0 percent since 2019 in the same dataset.
