Belarus added 11,888 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 69.0 percent to 29,123 tonnes. DR Congo added 7,009 tonnes, up 17.7 percent. Iran added 4,466 tonnes, up 56.2 percent. Iraq added 3,502 tonnes, up 77.6 percent. The United States added 1,616 tonnes, up 2.7 percent. China added 1,520 tonnes, up 6.8 percent. Russia lost 2,784 tonnes, down 4.0 percent. Germany shed 2,040 tonnes, down 8.6 percent. The 146 countries present in both years rose from 577,461 tonnes to 598,690 tonnes, up 21,229 tonnes, or 3.7 percent, with no entries or exits.

France Vanishes from Five-Year Buttermilk, Dry

Between 2019 and 2023, the 138 countries present in both years slipped from 570,190 tonnes to 550,851 tonnes, down 19,340 tonnes, or 3.4 percent. France fell from 26,220 tonnes in 2019 to 0.02 in 2023. The United States added 10,046 tonnes, up 19.2 percent. The Netherlands added 8,403 tonnes, up 58.4 percent. Russia added 8,115 tonnes, up 13.8 percent. Belarus added 6,960 tonnes, up 31.4 percent. China added 5,705 tonnes, up 31.7 percent. Myanmar lost 7,251 tonnes, down 63.6 percent. Czechia went from 5,830 tonnes to a reported zero. One country left with 292 tonnes, against eight arrivals with 47,840.

Ireland Leads Dry Buttermilk Supply per Person

Ireland's 12.42 grams a day beat Finland's 8.92 in second and Belarus' 8.75 in third. Lithuania sat fourth at 4.16 grams, with the Netherlands at 3.45 and Latvia at 3.31. Iceland, Canada, North Macedonia and Uzbekistan followed below 3.1 grams. Russia, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record tonnage for human consumption under element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for dry buttermilk across 2019-2023. Percentages reference the earlier year, and zero bases receive no percentage. The universe counts 147 countries after aggregates are removed, 146 with 2023 values. Only countries holding values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total of 598,690 tonnes is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.
