Cereals n.e.c. Imports by Country
Japan bought 44,491 tonnes of cereals n.e.c. abroad in 2023 and 3,007 tonnes in 2024, a 93.2 percent retreat that leads the table's contraction. The figures below aggregate FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral records for item Cereals n.e.c. (cereals not classified elsewhere), 2020-2024, pairing import quantity in tonnes with import value in current US dollars. The table lists 144 countries; 98 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 listed quantity total is 121,529 tonnes.
Spain was the largest importer of cereals n.e.c. in the 2024 listed data with 38,236 tonnes, followed by Ivory Coast with 23,460 tonnes and the Netherlands with 14,861 tonnes. Romania ranked fourth with 6,261 tonnes, ahead of France (6,180 tonnes), Italy (5,317 tonnes), Thailand (4,240 tonnes) and the United States (4,048 tonnes). Spain also led on import value at 11,556,000 US dollars, followed by the Netherlands (9,701,000) and the United States (8,938,000). Japan's 2023-2024 retreat of 41,484 tonnes (down 93.2 percent) exceeds the next three declines combined, with Denmark (-5,355 tonnes), France (-2,618 tonnes) and Portugal (-2,525 tonnes) summing to 10,498 tonnes against Japan's 41,484. Spain holds 31.5 percent of the listed 2024 total, about 1.63 times Ivory Coast; the top three together hold 63.0 percent, the top five 73.2 percent and the top ten 88.8 percent. Spain, the Netherlands, Romania, France and Italy buy in Europe; Ivory Coast is the largest African reporter in the listed 2024 data; Thailand buys in Asia; and the United States is the largest buyer in the Americas. Between 2023 and 2024, the common reporter universe (94 countries with data in both years) fell from 150,418 tonnes to 121,469 tonnes, a change of -28,949 tonnes (-19.2 percent). The totals listed for each year were 157,734 tonnes (124 reporters) and 121,529 tonnes (98 reporters). The Netherlands added 9,779 tonnes (up 192.4 percent) and Italy 1,787 tonnes (up 50.6 percent), while China added 126.19 tonnes (from 93.96 to 220.15 tonnes) from a small base. Denmark fell 5,355 tonnes (down 69.6 percent) and France 2,618 tonnes (down 29.8 percent). Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (93 countries with data in both years) fell from 146,963 tonnes to 121,527 tonnes, a change of -25,436 tonnes (-17.3 percent). The totals listed for each year were 157,140 tonnes (130 reporters) and 121,529 tonnes (98 reporters). The Netherlands added 7,071 tonnes (up 90.8 percent) and Romania 2,863 tonnes (up 84.3 percent). Thailand fell 6,366 tonnes (down 60.0 percent) and Ivory Coast 5,393 tonnes (down 18.7 percent). What "n.e.c." means decides what this table contains: cereals not classified elsewhere within the relevant classification, so comparisons with wheat, rice or maize tables mix different universes and are never made here. Yearly reporter totals sum FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral flows for item Cereals n.e.c., import quantity and import value, 2020-2024. For cereals n.e.c. imports, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes; values remain full current US dollars without inflation adjustment. The 2024 cereals n.e.c. imports ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities; values are not used for ranking. In the cereals n.e.c. imports data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For cereals n.e.c. imports changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Partner-derived gap filling and food-aid additions can apply, and unreconciled bilateral pairs mean an import record and its mirror export may disagree.Cereals n.e.c. Imports by Country in 2024
