United States Sheds Cocoa Powder and Cake

The United States lost 49,290 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 14.7 percent to 287,073 tonnes. India lost 10,349 tonnes, down 17.0 percent. France shed 8,121 tonnes, down 9.7 percent. Israel gave up 8,055 tonnes, down 50.1 percent. Mexico fell 7,393 tonnes, down 73.1 percent. Indonesia added 16,562 tonnes, up 8.9 percent. Ivory Coast added 10,000 tonnes, up 10.0 percent. China added 9,717 tonnes, up 17.4 percent. The 163 countries present in both years fell from 1,584,765 tonnes to 1,525,287 tonnes, down 59,478 tonnes, or 3.8 percent, with no entries or exits.

Ivory Coast Grinds Five-Year Cocoa Powder and Cake Gains

Between 2019 and 2023, the 162 countries present in both years grew from 1,470,030 tonnes to 1,524,604 tonnes, up 54,574 tonnes, or 3.7 percent. Ivory Coast added 39,310 tonnes, up 55.6 percent, accounting for 72.0 percent of the net gain. Indonesia added 38,367 tonnes, up 23.3 percent. China added 16,547 tonnes, up 33.7 percent. India added 9,103 tonnes, up 21.9 percent. The United States lost 24,044 tonnes, down 7.7 percent. Russia shed 11,010 tonnes, down 43.2 percent. The United Kingdom fell 10,292 tonnes, down 21.7 percent. France gave up 8,573 tonnes, down 10.1 percent. One country left with 2,096 tonnes, against one arrival with 683.

Ivory Coast Tops Cocoa Powder and Cake per Person

Ivory Coast's 9.67 grams a day was nearly three times Spain's 3.27 in second. France sat third at 3.13 grams, with Samoa at 2.81 and Canada at 2.80. Bulgaria, Sweden, Australia, Israel and New Zealand followed below 2.8 grams. The United States, first by volume, missed the per-person top ten.

The volume figures show the largest national supplies, while the per-person measure adjusts those values for population size. Mexico's 73.1 percent latest fall ends far above zero, so it reads as retreat without a warning. Israel's 50.1 percent fall lands the same way.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record tonnage for human consumption under element 5141 and daily grams per person under element 665, shown for cocoa powder and cake across 2019-2023. Percentages take the earlier year as the base, and zero bases take no percentage. The universe counts 164 countries after aggregates are dropped, 163 with 2023 values. Only countries holding values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total of 1,525,287 tonnes is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.
