Camel Offal Food Supply by Country
Saudi Arabia recorded the largest food supply of edible offals from camels and other camelids in 2023, at 9,423 tonnes. Ethiopia followed with 8,035 tonnes, while China ranked third at 5,382 tonnes. Mauritania had the highest per-person supply, at 2.39 grams a day. The 2023 listed total was 52,180 tonnes across 32 countries with reported values, based on data for 2019-2023.
Which Country Has the Highest Camel Offal Food Supply?
Saudi Arabia had the highest reported food supply of edible offals from camels and other camelids in 2023, at 9,423 tonnes, or about 18.1 percent of the annual listed total. Ethiopia ranked second with 8,035 tonnes, followed by China with 5,382 tonnes. Mauritania had the highest per-capita supply. These FAO figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually ate.
Kenya added 2,405 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 126.9 percent to 4,301 tonnes. Saudi Arabia added 859 tonnes, up 10.0 percent, and China added 402 tonnes, up 8.1 percent. Egypt lost 357 tonnes, down 16.9 percent, Niger lost 354 tonnes, down 17.0 percent, and Mongolia shed 106 tonnes, down 9.1 percent. All 32 countries with reported values in 2022 also had values in 2023. Their combined food supply rose from 48,441 tonnes to 52,180 tonnes, an increase of 3,739 tonnes, or 7.7 percent. Between 2019 and 2023, the 32 countries with a value in both years fell by 3,505 tonnes, or 6.3 percent, from 55,685 tonnes at the start. Saudi Arabia recorded the largest decline, losing 6,875 tonnes, down 42.2 percent. Kenya shed 1,939 tonnes, down 31.1 percent, and Ethiopia gave up 514 tonnes, down 6.0 percent. Egypt added 761.43 tonnes, up 76.7 percent, Algeria added 1,300 tonnes, up 145.3 percent, and China added 1,639 tonnes, up 43.8 percent. Bolivia and Peru reported 2019 values but none afterwards, so they sit outside this comparison, and no country entered it. Mauritania recorded 2.39 grams a day in 2023, ahead of Oman at 1.07 grams in second and the Emirates at 0.90 grams in third. Mongolia sat fourth at 0.84 grams. Mauritania therefore ranks first per person even though its national total is below those of the three volume leaders in the table above. Edible offals of camels and other camelids, fresh, chilled or frozen, available for human consumption are recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only, and the listed total is not a world figure that includes regional aggregates. Total tonnage shows the scale of reported food supply, while grams per person per day adjust the figures for population size. This table records no reported zero in 2023; the only rows without a 2023 value are Bolivia and Peru, which have no value after 2019. A reported zero is therefore not used to fill a gap here, and a blank cell means missing data rather than zero supply. The data come from FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts. Element 5141 records food supply in tonnes, while element 665 reports food supply in grams per capita per day, for edible offals of camels and other camelids, fresh, chilled or frozen, over 2019-2023. The annual listed total sums countries with reported values for the relevant year. Year-to-year comparisons include only countries with reported values in both years. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero. Reported zeros are retained, while blank cells are treated as missing data, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimals. These figures describe food available for human consumption, not actual dietary intake.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries supplied the most camel offal in 2023?
Saudi Arabia ranked first with 9,423 tonnes, followed by Ethiopia with 8,035 tonnes and China with 5,382 tonnes in the stated 2023 table overall here.
Why does Mauritania rank first per person despite placing fourth by tonnage?
Per-capita supply accounts for population as well as total supply, and Mauritania recorded 2.39 grams per person per day, above Oman at 1.07 grams in that year.
Which country recorded the biggest increase in 2023?
Kenya had the largest reported annual increase, rising by 2,405 tonnes, or 126.9 percent, from 1,896 tonnes in 2022 to 4,301 tonnes in that year overall.
Did camel offal food supply grow between 2019 and 2023?
Not across the common set of reporting countries. Their combined total fell from 55,685 tonnes in 2019 to 52,180 tonnes in 2023, a decline of 3,505 tonnes overall.
Do these figures show how much camel offal people actually eat?
No. FAO's food-supply figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual intake, so they should not be read as direct measurements of what people ate.
