Groundnut Oil Production by Country

Sudan lost 95,000 tonnes of groundnut oil output in 2023 while India lost 519,000 tonnes since 2019. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Groundnut oil, 2019-2023, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 92 countries; 89 reported a 2023 quantity, and the 2023 annual listed total is 6,430,827 tonnes. The 2023 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

India produced 1.25 times as much as China: 2,309,000 tonnes against 1,848,600, while Nigeria ranks third with 390,500 tonnes, 1,458,100 tonnes behind China. The top two hold 64.6 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 390,500 and 242,800 tonnes respectively.

Groundnut Oil Production by Country in 2023

India was the largest groundnut oil producer in the 2023 listed data with 2,309,000 tonnes, followed by China with 1,848,600 tonnes and Nigeria with 390,500 tonnes. Myanmar ranked fourth with 242,800 tonnes.

India holds 35.9 percent of the listed 2023 total. The top three together hold 70.7 percent of the 6,430,827-tonne listed total.

The common reporter universe (89 countries with data in both years) fell from 6,595,473 tonnes to 6,430,827 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, a change of -164,646 tonnes (-2.5 percent). The totals listed for each year were 6,595,994 tonnes (90 reporters) and 6,430,827 tonnes (89 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2022 (521.34 tonnes, Madagascar) did not report in 2023, while no new reporters joined. Sudan fell 95,000 tonnes (down 37.4 percent) and China 39,500 tonnes (down 2.1 percent), while Myanmar added 27,800 tonnes (up 12.9 percent).

From 2019 to 2023 the common reporter universe (88 countries with data in both years) moved from 6,618,487 tonnes to 6,430,827 tonnes, a change of -187,660 tonnes (-2.8 percent). The totals listed for each year were 6,619,378 tonnes (91 reporters) and 6,430,827 tonnes (89 reporters); 3 reporters present in 2019 (largest: Bolivia, 717.15 tonnes) are absent in 2023, while 1 new reporter added a reported zero (Brunei). India fell 519,000 tonnes (down 18.4 percent), while China added 252,800 tonnes (up 15.8 percent) and Myanmar 54,400 tonnes (up 28.9 percent).

Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Groundnut oil, 2019-2023. For groundnut oil production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2023 groundnut oil production ranking and shares use 2023 listed quantities. In the groundnut oil production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For groundnut oil production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
