About Greenland
Greenland is the world's largest island, located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. Although geographically part of North America, it is geopolitically part of Europe and an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. It has wide-ranging self-governance, though foreign and currency policy remain with Denmark.
Nearly 80% of its landmass is covered by the Greenland Ice Sheet, which is the second-largest body of ice in the world after Antarctica. If it were to melt entirely, global sea levels would rise by about 7 meters. This ice sheet also serves as a crucial archive of past climate data.
The population is approximately 56,600, with most inhabitants living in coastal settlements, particularly in the capital, Nuuk. The economy relies heavily on fishing and fisheries exports, with a growing interest in mineral extraction and tourism.
