About Albania

Albania has over 300 sunny days per year and coastlines on both Adriatic and Ionian seas. The country produces 95% of its electricity from hydropower, making it one of the cleanest energy producers in Europe. Albanian is spoken by over 7 million people worldwide.

The country has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites including ancient Butrint ruins. Albania exports chrome, oil, and agricultural products. The nation has experienced rapid economic growth since the 1990s.

Albania is home to the Albanian Alps with peaks over 2,600 meters. The country has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. Traditional Albanian hospitality follows the ancient code of "Besa" meaning honor.

The nation gained independence in 1912 and has a rich Byzantine and Ottoman architectural heritage. Albania has significant oil reserves and mining industry. The country is a NATO member since 2009.

Albanian cuisine features fresh seafood, olive oil, and Mediterranean influences. The population is approximately 2.8 million with Albanian and Greek minorities. Albania has stunning mountain landscapes and pristine beaches along 476 km of coastline.
