About Latvia

Latvia has stunning Art Nouveau architecture in Riga with over 800 buildings from early 1900s. The country has 500 km of Baltic Sea coastline with white sand beaches. Latvian is world's oldest continuously spoken Indo-European language.

The nation has dense forests covering 52% of territory with excellent biodiversity. Latvia produces high-quality amber from Baltic Sea shores. The country regained independence in 1991 and joined EU in 2004.

Riga is UNESCO World Heritage Site and major Baltic cultural center. Latvia has continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The nation has excellent choral music tradition with massive song festivals.

Traditional Latvian culture includes Midsummer celebrations, folk crafts, and pagan traditions. The country has parliamentary republic with strong democratic institutions. Latvian cuisine features rye bread, smoked fish, and dairy products.

The population is 1.9 million with Latvian as official language. Latvia offers medieval charm, natural beauty, and Baltic heritage making it emerging tourism destination.
